Hi Zinfandel,
My heart goes out to you and I can understand why you're feeling depressed.
Can we help you by trying to recommend an OS in your area so you can seek a second opinion?

I agree with, Mojo, in that it would be wise to make an appt if whoever you're considering is booking out as far as you mentioned. That way if another option arises, you could cancel. At least you'd know you were moving toward possible resolution, rather than being stagnant.

Knowing you have a plan may also help with your mood as you may not feel as stuck. I'd suggest you talk to your Primary Care Physician also about your depression if you haven't already. Possibly he could prescribe something to help you get from where you are, to where you want to be emotionally. While Medical Marijuana may relax and ease your symptoms temporarily, it won't get to the root of the problem and you will continue to spin your wheels. Please let us help you work toward getting the help you need and deserve.
Best wishes for your comfort and a peaceful day.
@zinfandel

@Wayfarer Please let me be clear -
I sited Medical Marijuana (only) because in Zinfandel's last post she mentioned she had her first appt with
the dispensary on Friday. I agree that all of the above mentioned are pain relievers. My point is I don't want her to continue to put a band-aid on an ax wound. I want her to get the help she needs to get to the origin of her pain, obtaining comfort from the suffering and subsequent depression it's causing her.

I want her to find PERMANANT relief if possible. This has been going on for over a year, I've been communicating with her for just as long and my heart goes out to her in her long-suffering. Naturally, in the interim, I want her to obtain comfort through any prescription she lawfully obtains. I simply don't want her to settle for that alone. That is what I'm trying to impress upon her while encouraging her to seek a second opinion.
Hope you have a good one!

@zinfandel I hope you're having a pleasant day, sweetie.
I'm sorry for derailing but I felt I needed to clarify. I'm not on an anti Medical Marijuana crusade here.
Prayers for your comfort and healing. :prayer:

@zinfandel, I am so sorry you are going through all of this. Your comment sounds like what my surgeon said to me "try harder and exercise more"... If they only knew what we are experiencing.

I wish there was some way you could get at the least a diagnostic ultrasound... But unfortunately, even if a doctor orders one, the insurance company has the right to deny any tests (or medications) they feel aren't necessary.

My heart goes out to you and I am praying that you are able to find a resolution.

Hi everyone,
All went great. They took 45 mins w me to explain everything at the dispensary. I can’t use anything till my pain mgt appt the 31st. I wouldn’t want it on my drug screen. I do agree that I feel like I’m just putting on a band aid. But it’s all I have now. I know my back needs another surgery but until hip is more stable it can’t be done. I’m still thinking about a second opinion but my new ins Medicare advantage plan through Cigna most likely won’t pay for most tests. And I’d pay 20% ugh!!! I just want to understand where the pain is coming from. I understand that they abducter is still extremely weak. But it’s the pain that I get that bothers me as to why. Dr says everything looks fine on X-ray. Just needed to rant... thanks all for your messages it’s a big help. @Layla @Wayfarer @Marvy

@zinfandel, again, any problems with soft tissues, including muscles, don't show up on x-ray. Your doctor is looking at bones and the prostheses when he looks at the x-ray, and they may indeed be fine. You need other kinds of imaging to diagnose soft tissue issues, such as MRI (specifically MARS MRI if you are looking at areas near the metal prostheses) or diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. For anyone as debilitated and in as much pain as you are having, they should be actively searching for a cause. Hope you can be a loud enough squeaky wheel to get the grease!

My x-rays were fine, and I couldn't balance on my leg with the torn gluteal tendon for even a second. Needed MARS MRI for diagnosis and surgery for treatment.

Good luck.

@Krista thank you so much. I’m making an appt for a second opinion. Just waiting on referral and then make appt. see what they recommend. I have to assume an mri bc I’m in so much pain. It’s crazy. I appreciate all your info and once I have an appt I’ll let you know.

Hi @zinfandel
Glad to hear you've made an appt for a second opinion. It's a step in the right direction.
We'll look forward to what you learn at your appt. Stay in touch.
Wishing you comfort as you move forward. :console2:

Well didn’t get the result I wanted to. The dr said I had the best surgeon even better then him. He thinks I just may have got as good as it will get. Sigh... he saw nothing wrong but was shocked at all the hardware due to my complicated case. He didn’t even think pt would help and neither did my surgeon. He said just continue to do the exercises I’m doing but I may have to get used to my new normal. That’s what he said. So not happy. Need to get that visit notes to my disability case worker before they decide on my continued benefits. Since it’s basically saying I’ll have a horrible limp and pain rest of my life.

Sorry not better news. Thanks for all the well wishes. I guess we will see over the years.

Hi Zinfandel...I hate to see you downhearted.
You have persevered through so much tough stuff...I hate to think you are having pain. A limp I could live with if no choices...but pain...not fair I say.

You know how beloved you are here so please do try to keep the faith and take it easy on the exercise.

I wish you had better news too, but the doctors can't know everything...including all the good mojo coming your way from all your friends!

Hi @zinfandel
Wondering if the surgeon you just saw is in the same office as your original OS?
I'm sorry you continue to struggle. Not sure how to advise.

I do know that at only 45 yrs of age, you're way too young to settle for this as your new normal, if there is a solution. Please don't give up yet..

Big hugs :console2:

@zinfandel, I am so sad reading your update. I assume they didn't even use MARS MRI imaging or musculoskeletal ultrasound to look for what is causing your pain and limp. Yes, those doctors may know their stuff regarding the bones, but they don't appear to be able to diagnose or treat your possible soft tissue problems. I was in your position, and I went through several physicians, and kept on searching until I found an orthopedic surgeon who was able to diagnose and treat my problems. I can't imagine being relegated at age 45 to a life like you describe. I hope you will find relief in future. You deserve proper care!

@Krista thank you so much I was at therapy earlier and said I’m mourning and angry about losing my old self. Your right being 45 and like this is horrible. But I have to learn to live as dr said. It’s my new reality Ugh.

I disagree, zinfandel. You're not doomed to live as you are. You need to find a doctor who will listen to you and help you. Have you had a MARS MRI or musculoskeletal ultra sound as Krista suggested? Wondering if your doctor suggested either diagnostic test? If not, consider seeking a second opinion, or ask to have one scheduled. Please don't settle for this as your miserable new normal.
Prayers you find a doctor to help you. :prayer:

I'd love to hear how that doctor would react if he (not intending to exclude female docs by this old school use of pronoun) or a member of his family was essentially told to "suck it up and deal with it." I doubt he would stop searching for new doctors and insisting on additional tests until he had exhausted every possibility. Why should you be expected to live with it?

There's too much life left and too much life in you to accept this. Find someone new who listens to you, agrees that this is unacceptable and is willing to keep helping you search for the answer! The answer is out there somewhere!

@zinfandel, when every possible avenue has been explored and every possible treatment has been given, and you are still not ok, then it may be time to work on acceptance. But until that time, there is hope! I hope you can find the specialist who can help you. There is much that can still be explored in your case. I hope you won't give up! :fingersx:

I, like all your other BS pals, hate to see you in pain and feel somehow something is being missed. I'm sure you are weary of pressing for answers and hurting all the time. Praying you are able to get those additional tests done. Process of elimination was a long process in getting my diagnosis and I was super frustrated.:sigh:

Hoping today is a Good Day.

Hello everyone! I know it’s been awhile. Life... well buttock pain went away. However limp is still bad and now my ankle is swelling almost daily not counting the pain. Have to get mri on ankle. Waiting on insurance approval. Just is there any hope I’ll walk right again? Also disability says I’m ok to work... appealing can barely walk can’t do stairs etc. and mental health issues which imsure this situation has exacerbated. Sorry to vent.

I'm sorry you are still dealing with the pain and a limp----it wears us out to have chronic, unexplained pain! Just as bad is dealing with the related frustration of the insurance/disability bureaucracy. I hope you can catch a break and find a way to get the time and support you need now.
