THR gwenc's recovery

Hi, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. Usually it's related to too much activity. It's good that you stopped early. The thing that I found was that i would feel okay at the time, but then would pay the next few days. It's worth the wait, though. In time you can do all kinds of things, it just takes patience.

Thanks @Hip Hip Hooray! Sunday was pretty much a repeat of Saturday. So 4 good days in a row -- that's a new record! Monday was back to work, so lots of sitting and more stiffness. 3 x 3 Advil. Still quite tolerable, even without the wine! I am feeling a bit more optimistic and less "panicy" the last few days. I am starting to believe I really will be "whole" again eventually!

I am trying Tylenol instead of Advil for the next few days. In the past, Advil has worked better for me than Tylenol, but, of course it has side effects (stomach bleeding) which Tylenol does not. Today I have taken 2 doses of 1000 mg Tylenol. So far so good. Activty level normal for a workday, nothing unusual. Quite a bit of stiffness, compared to the weekend, but it subsided rapidly with 2 glasses of red wine and the magic oil. Pain level about a 2. Good day overall! Onward! Gratitude!

@gwenc good to hear, especially on a work day! That's a useful trick, switching back and forth from tylenol to advil. This magic oil, I don't suppose you can sneak it in to work?

@zauberflöte I work from home. But its totally legal in all 50 states, so yes, I could bring it to the office if I wanted to. It does not make one "high" its strictly a topical oil painkiller. But extremely effective. I apply 2 or 3 times per day, rub it in well, and it feels warm almost immediately and helps relax all the muscle groups and also has an analgesic effect.

Good morning all, I am happy to report things are continuing to go well. I have now had 5 (count 'em FIVE!) good days in a row! Activity level steady - barn chores, shopping, cooking, laundry, etc. Meds switches to 1000 mg Tylenol 3 times daily and it seems to be working. Pain level not above a 2 in 5 days. Stiffness on the work days, but goes away with small bursts of activity. Still feel like "peg-leg" while walking, but hoping it will eventually go away. Love my new additional PT exercise of sitting in the saddle on a heavy duty saddle stand in my bedroom, letting my legs hang, and rocking gently. Feels wonderful! See the doc today and will ask him about my LLD and how to get my pelvis untilted.

So good for you Gwen. We all want to know we made the right choice giving up part of our own failing bodies for a foreign replacement. I know it made me a wreck the first month.
Problem is, there really were no alternatives if I wanted to try to live a healthy life. We are gonna let these hips settle in and then have a great life.
So happy you are doing well!!!!!

Way to go! Sounds like you are doing great and have figured out the right things for you. We are all different and need to find our own niche I guess you could say. I'm sure you are anxious to here what dr has to say today. Sounds like you are on the right track.

Thanks all. Doc took xray and said everything looks great. As far as the LLD, he remeasured and said I have a 3 mm leg difference, which is basically nothing. He said the average is 2cm. He watched me walk and said it looks fine to him, but of course he is not feeling what I feel. He thinks it will just go away and advised NOT putting a lift in shoe, at least not yet. I see him again in 6 weeks and at that point if I am still having difficulty with walking he will prescribe some PT for me. Onward!

I have to agree with him-- PT will be the best remedy if time doesn't work. Our brains get all messed up with what they perceive, and send us weird signals based on what they think it ought to be, or what it's historically been but is no longer, etc etc. My sensation of LLD is fading to almost nothing. Still several months to go before I decide to complain.

Hi all, I'm back! Having a strange issue, though. The only thread I can see is this one!. I cant see or reply on anyone else's posts. Help!
Hope everyone is doing well!

Lots of Tech bugs due to update still being worked out I'm guessing. I am hoping like zauberflote, that the LLD deal will work itself out.
When I get frustrated and worry about my post op issues...I try to remember how restricted and debilitated I was becoming prior to THR. It makes things a little bit more tolerable.
Hope you have a Good FRIDAY!!!

@gwenc I had that exact same problem, only seeing my own threads. Glad it's gone back to normal again!

Another week has passed since your "3 mm" evaluation, how does it feel? I am pretty sure my perception of LLD has, what, normalized itself? I don't think I notice it any more. I am grateful for that, and wish the same for you :)

Hi ZF! I am trying not to think about it too much, I am going to wait until the end of the month and re-evaluate then. I have a feeling it is just the stiffness which is making it feel to me like I am going "up and down" rather than any actual difference in leg length.
By the way I still cant post on anyone else's threads. What did you do to get this to work for you?

@gwenc huh. I think we are all getting bits of forum access back at different times. I did nothing but stay away overnight and some of the morning. Layla doesn't see the whole little avatar box with all the info yet, and I do. I expect they'll get it all under control soon! I also am so very glad I'm not the tech people who are working on this-- I don't have near enough hair to tear out LOL.

I think you're right about the stiffness causing you to feel that LLD. A week ago, if I tucked my feet together under me, I was in actual fact standing with less weight on the right one. Now they are even. For me, I blame the swelling, which would be the same as the stiffness I think? I do wish the OS had managed to add a couple of inches to each leg so I'd be taller LOLOL
