Welcome to the happy hippy side @AbhiD.......so glad all went well. I felt I had a Leg Length Discrepancy & limp for some time after my op but after a few months, so physio and hydrotherapy it all went away and my gait is perfect. I was told it was due to pre op bad gait & it takes time for the pelvis to align!
Glad all is going well for you at only two days out....don't forget to keep us updated....BoneSmart is such a fabulous community! X

@AbhiD its common for the operated leg to be longer after surgery. I am not an expert nor had I hip replaced but did plenty of research. You should not worry to much. How is your flexibility? Did the stiffness went away?

@sub36 I would suggest do much research as possible. Start with google "best orthopedics in houston" get in touch. That's how I picked my surgeon. Plus one of dr assistant had her surgery through him. I am a yogaholic and I clearly stated during my consultation visit. I am an active person and I need to get back to rotuine asap. I am getting a custom hip with a zimmer cup and styker stem. Good luck with your research and go with the anterior approach. Less cutting, almost zero to none restrictions and quicker recovery.

I can ask my surgeon if he knows someone in Houston, TX.

AbhiD, I would really appreciate if you could pls ask your surgeon if he knows someone in Houston. It would be a great favor and also What kind of hip did the Dr replaced for you? is there any brand name or some kind of custom for your fit because I don't think there would be one size fit all. I think you have done research on it and already did the surgery as well. Please share your experience.

All of the hip implants have different sizes for the components. Please don't worry about that. It's your surgeon's job to know the correct implant and size for you. Many times those decisions are finalized in the operating room once he has access to your hip joint. The important thing is to find an excellent surgeon who specialized in hip replacements. Have you tried using our BoneSmart Find A Clinic locator? The tab to access the tool is at the top of the page. You type in your zip code and how far you're willing to travel. A list of clinics will pop up and then you go to each of their websites and read about the surgeons' qualifications.

@sub36 mark cuban owner of Dallas mavericks had his hip replaced anterior way through Dr. Peters in Dallas. From his instagram videos and postin, he was well into his recovery after a month. That's the best I can help regarding a surgeon near houston. Good luck picking a surgeon. My inspiration on this site is women who is from Virginia and she is her 50s. She was back to work after two weeks and back in gym after 6 weeks getting almost all her workout done. She wrote she was fortunate to pick a good surgeon for her quick recovery. I could not find her thread maybe one of the admin would post it here for both of us. Anyway, I am getting my done in 13 days!!!

Was 86,
Thanks for such a wonderful help and support you showed me. I will pray for you for your surgery and quick recovery. Well, I went to a doctor here in Houston few times regrading this hip and he wanted me to wait as long as possible and he said like come back in that point where you can't bear at all , this is it no more". Reading at the so many posts here and the people like you inspired me. I found younger people like me with the similar problem. I hope I will find a good surgeon or I will go back to the same doctor where I used to go and ask for advice and lets see what he is going to say this time. Houston has lots of doctors, many world famous hospitals, the world famous medical center but all we can do is to rely on internet and give a shot for few good doctors.

Please keep updated about your situation and I will be posting as well. Good night , God bless you.

When will the swelling and pain associated with it go away? It is 4th night after my surgery and I am not able to sleep because of the pain. I have been applying ice pack on it but swelling comes up again after a walk.

I have also noticed a click clack sound while walking from my operated hip

Hi @AbhiD - Are you taking any pain medication (pills)? Be sure to elevate the whole leg (like a wedge) when you are laying down. Do you actually hear a sound or it just feels like its clicking? maybe you should check with your doctor...it could be the soft tissues around the implants area haven't formed yet.

@AbhiD, agree with @toohip, it's very early in your recovery and I'm sure the clicking you hear should be checked out by you OS but is probably due to lack of healing at this point. Agree to ice, elevate, and take your pain meds. At this point, with this much pain, you should not be doing much walking anyway. Your main goal right now should be to get your pain under control. Wishing you all the best...the first week is the toughest so try to get a handle on the pain.

@AbhiD .... Sorry, but I'm just now catching with your recovery thread. How are you doing now??? Is the pain any better? Have you been taking your pain meds consistently on a schedule? Icing and resting as much as possible? Those are the best remedies for the pain you described. It is normal post surgery pain and it needs to be treated.

Hey @Jamie,

It's been approx. two weeks now after the surgery. I am able to walk without any assistive devices but still have a limp. It could be because of the length of operated leg. I feel like it is longer than the other one.

Pain is pretty much under control. I have about 5 out of 10. I feel pain only when there is a delay in taking pain meds.

The swelling is under control. It comes when I walk much or climb stairs for 4-5 times or more.

My PT is going on well. It is 3 times a week. My PT says I have good range of motion.

I will post more on my progress tomorrow as today afternoon I have appointment with my surgeon.

My only issue is a limp while walking and that could be because of unequal leg lengths.

[Bonesmart.org] Got my hip replaced!!
@AbhiD, it would be a good idea to continue to use a cane to help eliminate the limp. Once it is gone, then the cane can go. It is usual to feel that one leg is longer than the other for a while after surgery. Given enough time, it will resolve itself.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

@AbihiD

I agree with @bottomshollow that you should keep the cane. If you start walking with a gait impairment or limp now, it will be much harder to correct later on. I realize that you are young but you need time to heal those soft tissues that are buried deeper in the leg. Although it feels really good one despite a limp, you dont want to wake up with a case of tendonitis in a major tendon. Although I am quite a bit older I completed an Ironman before I had this surgery and am great shape but I am still using crutches as that is what my OS said to do until 4 weeks and I would love to get rid of them as ifeel I could go without them and go to a cane but the man is a professional and I will do what he says so I have absolutely no problems returning to my activities after 2 or so months. It would be a shame for you to have gone this far and end up in a different kind of pain. Are you doing Physio?
