THR Getting things done

@catt no need to lay flat on your back to ice. Do this while sitting.

BTW - you don't need to quote every post to reply. Just scoot down to the empty box at the bottom of the page and start typing.

No pillow under feet at night, pillow between legs at night.

Resting my feet against a small pillow really helps. I have a swollen knee and ankle and it dissipates in the night

@catt I had a lot of trial and error for ways to get comfortable...I'm definitely not a back sleeper but wasn't alot of choices with 2 new hips:heehee:
May take a while but things should continue to get easier AND easier!

Please supply us with your surgery date so others following your support have some context in how far along you are in your recovery.

Hope today is a Good Day.:ice:

THR was 6th March but poorly first week in hospital and then at home. Much better the last few days despite irregular sleep patterns ! Still not adversed to the occasional afternoon nod! X

I wish I could tell you I was able to sleep well shortly after my surgery but I go to BED and sleep 6 hours or more.
Couldn't get comfortable...
I'll be honest and say it was almost 4 month :sigh: mark.
Like the last piece of my puzzle!
We are all different but hang in there and definitely nap!
Worth it in the long run, I will say.
Hope your day is sweet.

Yes, it's called a bilateral. Lots of surgeons do them.

:chuckmarch:good to go now!
Hope things ease soon!

Josephine I take my hat off to you. I am struggling with just one!

I never had a bilateral, I had first in 2009 and the second in 2015

I'm the "both at once" double hippy:chuckmarch:

I am getting on fine and seeing specialist on Thursday. Most of my current discomfort is centred on my pelvis and lower back. Sneezing and pulling muscles is not helping. Any ideas how to relieve it? X

Alot of laying about just made some of that inevitable wi:tada:th me.
Ice is our friend for hips but sometimes with back I resort to heating pad or topical rubs.
Gentle stretching can help some.
I would have to get up and lift my arms over my head to try to get pressure off lower back.
I admit I still have some SI joint and lower back issues I will discuss with my OS at one year check up.
Hopefully as you get more mobile some of this will ease. Early days still.
So happy to hear you are doing better. Good luck for your appointment.
This is recovery business is a journey for sure.
Hang in there:ok:

Hi @catt ....I'm a little behind you, my new hip is 4 weeks old, but I have found it is fatal to start comparing your progress with someone else, even if they had it at the same time. There are so many variables....age, fitness, household support, state of the other hip etc And for every person you find who looks to be doing better than you there is probably someone who hasn't progressed as much as you. Your body will set its own recovery speed, we just need to let it (and try for a very large pinch of patience :heehee:) I really sympathise on the back sleeping....I spend half the night rearranging pillows etc in an effort to avoid backache, and my heels also get very sore....bit miserable really, but only another 2 weeks to go. Have you tried heat on your pulled muscles? A hotwater bottle or maybe a wheatbag? Sometimes moist heat helps (wring out a towel in hot water), or the trusty ice pack. I hope you find something that works for you.....it's not easy to be positive when you're in pain

Bless you anny and mojo. I am resting as much and possible and pushing when I can. Now mostly on one crutch but when I rang the support team for advice they said wait to ask the specialist- useless really!

:oyvey:try that heat, Catt. May not totally alleviate pain but can be soothing and ease up those muscles.
And try to keep thinking...temporary!
You are going to get through this.:console2:
