TKR Getting somewhere at last!

Lilly , I had the constipation too, up until today! A good thing is that lazing about today has made my knee not so stiff and swollen. Goodness knows how I'll sleep tonight with all that dozing today!

Josephine, I wondered because a work colleague's husband was being tested for a brain tumour till they eventually told him the pain was caused by too much paracetamol. And told him not to take anymore.....

Nancy, for some reason, because we look good, people feel we are ready and raring to go. At 15 weeks, I am still taking Percocet, along with ibuprofen 3-4 times a day. In PT, I just got a new exercise last Wed. I have been increasing my ankle weights with exercises slowly over the last 4 weeks. I keep trying the exercise bike. It has hurt me every time the next day, til I turned down the tension( duh)!!!. I feel that I do more than enough at home going up and down 14 steps, cooking, etc, plus running, or rather walking after my 8 yr old daughter!!!Take it easy on yourself, you are doing fine???

I was sorry to read you are not feeling too good Nancy, I hope it's a fast passing bug and you feel better to tomorrow. Take care xx

I wonder if that's the rebound headache thing I've heard about.
@Josephine:

I'm in the same boat as you are. I cry tears when doing my excercises. The way I feel now, I feel I'll never get this knee to where it works like my good knee........

I was taking a good look at the title of your thread---and it makes sense to me---as I was also where you all are---just about four years ago I was struggling with "Getting nowhere fast."

I didn't understand how long it could take for a TKR or a BTKR to completely recover. For me---a tad over five months before I lost the last little limp, and not until about eight months until I really felt great!

You have to understand that you are getting somewhere---just slowly!

Becky....that's the first time I've ever heard that comment about paracetamol......so I tagged Josephine so she could comment. It sounds a bit flaky to me.

All I can say is that this chap had MRI scans to rule out brain tumours , it was a very worrying time as you can imagine, before they ruled it out and said it was cluster headaches caused by consistent use of paracetamol. And now he has to avoid any paracetamol products.

"2/3 weeks walk at least half a mile
4/6 weeks walk with no sticks and no limp and at least a mile and up and down stairs foot over foot!
I am due back for 1st check up on 7 march and that was putting me under pressure to be able to 'perform' when I got there[/QUOTE]"

gosh! what book was that?
I am way behind.:hysterical:

It was the hospital that gave me it! No danger I can do all that before Wednesday. Will let you know what they say.

I have to admit to being laid low for the past two days and that being lazier has meant my knee is not nearly so painful. I'll ask him that on Wednesday too!

I'm not disputing it at all, Becky. I always freely admit when I don't know something.
Pharmacology is not my specialist subject so there are many things I don't know.

Hi Nancy
I wondered how you got on with your OS this week? I hope all is well with you and you're feeling a bit brighter.

I wasn't able to go as have been pretty wiped out. Not eaten since Sunday, tried toast a couple of times but straight out, even water was difficult. Today I found out I have campylobacter and antibiotics tonight. It is very frustrating, the strength is draining out of my knee as I haven't been able to do exercises properly or get out to walk about. I feel that I have taken a backward step. (no pun intended) At one point I had no meds at all but as I was flat on my bed it didn't hurt too much. Just half heartedly managed some stretches. Up for a bit today and very stiff so took paracetamol and iced. Doc has given me ciprofloxacin and don't know yet if I can take tramadol with it. Does Josephine know? I had thought of leaving it but if stiff= pain then I need it. Maybe I do need it to get moving again. Thanks for asking x

Hi Nancy
You poor thing, no wonder you are wiped out. I hope the antibiotics work quickly for you and you start to feel better tomorrow. Don't worry about your knee, I am sure the rest will do it no harm and when you feel stronger you can get back to your knee routine. Make sure you eat some high protein food when you can eat properly. Take care Nancy and keep us posted.

Thanks Jo. Just on a real downer over it all. But next week I'll start again
