TKR Getting somewhere at last!

Nancy, I just sent a long post to Rich, someone who recently had a TKR and is discouraged by how long recovery is taking. I think this whole TKR thing means we will need to pay attention to our bodies. Maybe that's not such a bad thing. I had a fall recently and thought I was fine, woke up in the middle of the night (36 hrs. later) and couldn't move my knee--too much pain. Long story short: I had to go to ER, no breaks or tears but soft tissue damage. I'll know what to do it it happens again. Hope your cramps are gone. Do you know what to do for them? I'd ask on this site. Someone may have a way to address them. I get them in the foot of the TKR leg. Pressure is the only thing that works to ease it. Can you do that?

Jane, I had cramps since not long after op, tried everything, soap in the bed, quinine, soda water...... It happens in the middle of the night when I turn over and curl up my legs. All I can do is let out a groan and quickly straighten legs out. Sorry to hear about your fall, thankfully no lasting damage, thing is, would that have happened anyway even without tkr? I have put on a bit of weight , common sense tells me that can't be good for me so that will be my goal in the new year. Have a lovely Christmas and just think , soon we'll be 2!

:merry xmas:I suddenly realised as I Christmas shopped, laden down with parcels, that I couldn't have done it 2 years ago. So while my knee is not perfect, it has greatly improved my quality of life. I even ran for a bus today without thinking about it first! Merry Christmas and happy new year to all

Hope you and yours have had a wonderful Christmas holiday with lots of family fellowship and sharing of gifts and lots of good food to eat.

I’ll be looking for you at the BoneSmart annual New Year’s Party. It’s been a very eventful year for most of us---and will be a very eventful year coming up for others of us looking forward to surgery in the new year.

Remember to bring food and drink to share---and pictures are always appreciated and loads of fun to share.

SEE YOU AT THE PARTY!!!!!

And today my knee is 2! In some ways it seems ages ago and in other ways just recently

Happy Knee birthday!

Nancy, I tried to write to you on our knee anniversary, both of our knees two years old, but I couldn't get through. Isn't it amazing that we have come this far. I saw my beloved physical therapist today. Showed her photos of my hike up the mountain and my canoe rides. She was happy. Few people return to let her know how much she has meant to them. She's the one who helped me this summer, at a year and a half and turned my recovery around. I agree with Bottomshollow--a toast to our knees and the way they support us. And even more importantly, the way we all support each other. CHEERS!

Jane, as we say here on Burns Day, Lang may yer lum reek! Am so pleased you're feeling better about it all.

Jane, what lovely photos, you all look fab.
Lang may yer lum reek means long may your chimney smoke....ie long may you live and prosper....have cash for a fire to cook and make heat and a home to make a fire in, be healthy to make a fire.

I don't know what I've done this weekend but both my knees are hurting tonight , the non tkr knee and the operated knee. I'm not ready for another op, hopefully just a blip!

Today I am in some pain with a dental abscess. I went to dentist , she gave me antibiotics, I was very surprised when she didn't drill to drain the infection away. Should I be concerned for my knee?

I don't know about the knee, but best wishes for the antibiotics to work quickly. Be sure to take them all.
