Mystery solved !! thank you !!!

Hey Rballer. You remind me of me. Love playing and watching sports. Basketball however was my main downfall. Im 8 days post op and for 3 months ,read bonesmart daily. PRICELESS!!. Stay as active as possible . I went to the gym 4 days the week leading to my surgery. I believe my physical conditioning and years of core training and ab work has helped my recovery. So. Build upperbody strengh which you may already have, exercise if knee allows it and read and apply bonesmart !! Best of luck

Build upperbody strengh which you may already have,
This is a must. If you are having a BTKR, you will be hoisting yourself around, as your knees will be somewhat stiff and the muscles may atrophy quickly. Work on your biceps, triceps, deltoids, pecs, lats and traps---you will need them.

When I had my BTKR, they had a the "Trapeze-thingy" over my bed so I could get in and out and such.

Yes, thanks guys ....... For the past 13 months , ever since I had my orthoscopic surgery on both knees in Jan of 2013 ( which didnt help AT ALL !!! ) , i've been pretty faithful with a little workout I do 3 times a week. ( upper body exercises ) and I feel like I've increased my upper body strength, and maybe even got a little buffed in the process !! ha ha , I've also experienced a dozen times or so with a leg extension exercise to strengthen my quads , with what i thought was light weight , however that excercise seemed to give me more leg ( knee ) discomfort. Maybe I will experience with a different type of leg exercise. Anyone have any suggestions regarding that ?

Just wondering....I was checking out the "Post Your Scar" thread and I cant help but wonder , where are all the smaller scars from the heavily promoted Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement Surgeries. I have done alot of research about this procedure , watched alot of youtube videos , etc...and one of the things that is constantly mentioned besides the fact that the quad muscle is spared from being cut and healing is quicker , is that the incision / scar is about half the size of the regular "older type" of surgery ( 4" vs 8 to 10" ) I'm not seeing any smaller ( 4" type ) of scars !!!

ok Lovestoread... thank you . By the way , how are the knees feeling ?

Well, I just got back from the gym! I am on my feet all day working at a middle school, but try to get to the gym at least 3-4 days a week. I do a 1/2 hour of weight machines, and then walk the track for 1/2 hour. I used to walk 4-5 miles a day pre-knee arthritis. I'm thrilled that even though I'm only walking a half hour, I'm getting in two miles, which is my old 4 mph pace. There is absolutely no pain at all and I have to say I am truly amazed! Never dreamt it would turn out so well! Good luck to you! What did you think of my picture of my scars? The rest of the legs don't look so great, but the knees are looking good, if I do say so myself!

Yeh, your scars look pretty darn good. Definately smaller than many of the other scars on that thread. Refresh my memory now, your surgeon was the infamous Dr. Berger from Chicago ? ...Minimally Invasive ?

@rballer, yes, I had MIS with the famous, or is that "infamous" Dr. Berger. Guess he has quite the reputation! I'm fortunate to live in the area and have been so very pleased with the way my surgery was done as well as the quick recovery!

yes indeed...you are very lucky you live so close . Someone from over here in Conn was flying out to Chicago a few weeks ago to have the good Doc perform his magical surgery on him. . That's the first time I became aware of Dr. Berger ...for someone to fly out to Chicago from Conn...that was significant .

There were 6 of us in my pre-op class and 3 were from out of state. I was really surprised…at the time I guess I didn't realize how well known he is. It's unfortunate more OS's don't perform this type of surgery. They have quite the routine for out-of-towners,including special deals on hotels.

like you said ...and I completely agree ...its VERY unfortunate that more OS's dont perform his type of surgery !!!! makes me crazy thinking about it !!!!
