@Onestepatatime:

I am so glad to hear of your positive progress!!! GREAT!!!

I have merged your newest thread with your original one because we do need to keep this progress with your past recovery information. That way people following your story in the months and years to come will see that there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

Remember.....any of the mods can change the title of your threads if you like. All you have to do is tell us what you'd like it to be.

Yay, Karen. Change in ROM is huge! Full circle backward AND forward? Huge! Cute guy on the horizon, even huger (hugger?)!

Enjoy your milestones. Write them on your calendar!

Thanks! Your knee is one month ahead of mine, how are you doing?

I thought the new guy would blow me off, but glad he did not, so it is something fun to look forward to. Now i have to work on getting rid of these dark circles because sleeping is a nightmare. I guess that is why us women have make up! And if the date sucks I can excuse myself because my knee hurts, and it probably will!

Karen: cucumber slices and tea bags are supposed to work on dark circles and puffiness.

I started my eighth week this past Tues, and I'm doing very well. I see that whateverim dealing with is part of the recovery process and everyone at one time or another, to one degree or another is experiencing the same thing!

Thanks for the beauty tips! As if dating as a single mom isn't bad enough, adding a tkr recovery in the mix is over the edge! I know I should put it all on hold. And after me pushing plans 2x, first time I was delusional to think I could make it, 2nd time my son has a guitar recital. So we are planning to meet a week from Thursday. Which is good for me, more time to heal! And get a mani pedi and rest.....

Hello Fellow Members,
Tonight is one of those moments....:hairpulling: I had a good couple of days and yesterday I think I pushed myself too much in PT. I was so excited I could ride the bike, I did it 2x, and an extra set of my exercises. Today I did another round. The picked myself up, took a drive down to Paramus, and bought 3 expensive pairs of Munro shoes, in anticipation of needing something supe comfy and stylish to return back to work.

Side note - if anyone needs super comfy and cute shoes check out Munro's not cheap but they are awesome! Ok that is not why I am posting...

It is 11 p.m. and I am having a tearful meltdown because I am so umcomfortable. Evey muscle hurts, and my knee is throbbing. I was only gone 3 hours, and my leg swelled and felt like it was going to give birth to a 9 lb baby. I spent the rest of the day icing and elevating.

On Tuesday I go back to the surgeon and in my head I was hoping to start going back to the office pt and work the rest from home. Work is pressuring me to return and the 25% pay cut for disability stinks. I feel overwhelmed all around. And an old good friend of mine has not visited me once since surgery and was all upset about that. But decided to let that go, I cant worry about friends that do not want to be friends or be there.

I am definitely improving, but this discomfort, and the boredom and loneliness is really getting to me. I do have a good support system, but live alone. My son is great but he is 14 and has his own life....

This is the only place I could come where I feel like you all understand....
Thank goodness for this board!!!!! Thanks for listening, and I will check on everyone as well...

Karen

Kaaren.....sweetie.....you are feeling bad because you are hurting! Pain can make even really good things turn sour. Please continue the icing and elevating. If you are not taking something for the pain....please do so. It can be our BoneSmart Cocktail (ibuprofen and Tylenol) or prescription pain meds. You won't need to do it more than a couple of days....but get yourself on a schedule so that the pain is managed. Things will look brighter!

Also....be sure and get some sleep. Rest really helps as well.

As for work, it's really best that you learned now that it's too soon for you to go back. Five weeks is so soon!!! You just aren't going to have the stamina for a while yet. Better to know that now than to promise to go into work and find you can't do it.

You may also need to take some medicinal chocolate this evening....broken link removed: https://aolsearcht3.search.aol.com/aol/imageDetails?s_it=imageDetails&q=chocolate+smiley&v_t=client97-newtab&b=image%3Fs_it%3Dclient97-newtab%26query%3Dchocolate%2Bsmiley%26oreq%3D2f18699fd10649b780b428485e03dfdb&img=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F_gImM3ACBqPY%2FTOShyAXVzwI%2FAAAAAAAAALk%2FWhOMcxAKJI8%2Fs1600%2FChocolate%2Bsmiley.png&host=http%3A%2F%2Fsuninmykitchen.blogspot.com%2F2010%2F11%2Fchocolate-temptation.html&width=78&height=78&thumbUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fimages-partners-tbn.google.com%2Fimages%3Fq%3Dtbn%3AANd9GcRjRzmHHbyUhYsle6UbrlLOQr512wN8IEYxc3gIfLMXyGXokgqZ0JwLNw&imgWidth=110&imgHeight=110&imgSize=13728&imgTitle=chocolate+smiley

Karen. Sorry I didn't sign on earlier! I could have caught you.

It's very hard NOT to overdo when we're feeling good. Unfortunately, the feeling good is followed about feeling bad. Ice, elevate, meds ... and patience because tomorrow will come and it will be better.

Have you tried visiting the Game Room when you can't sleep? Maybe you'll find someone to talk to. I must admit, I haven't been there.

Hang in there! It will soon get better.

I'm going to check the shoes. Seems the cool yet comfy shoes are all pricey.

Hugs.

Karen-

Thank you for te shie tip. I plan to replace all of my shoes over the next 6 months.

Sounds like the overtime at PT is stressing you out. You are doing a tremendous job, look at your date? What i notice is that you are waaaaay ahead of the game compared to me. I am a bit of a turtle but i am making slow but steady progress but i just got on a bike and have not yet bought one pair of new shoes!!

Brighten up kiddo, I think you are being tough on yourself because you are stresses about work, money, expectations and friends you probably don't need. Take a deep breath, pop a pain pill and relax. You are doing such a fabulous job i bet you will be shoe shopping with a new valued friend before you know it! :wink1:

You did so much! What an accomplisment! And with more time, you'll be able to do all that with out the aftermath. Get some sleep , and the sun will come out tomorrow! We all need a group hug! :grouphug2:

You all are the best, thank you so much for the words of encouragement! I have been feeling physically and emotionally stressed lately. And I probably overdid things, because I began to feel better. I also am alone alot, while my friends and family are amazing, they are busy as well and can't stay with me 24/7. So when I have too much time on my hands, and discomfort sets in, so do the blues.
And like I mentioned, a couple of friends and family really were just huge disappointments in terms of being supportive. So I need to just shake off my hurt feelings, and stay positive. People can be so weird and self absorbed, that is a topic in itself.
I am trying to find the right balance to my days, between PT, doing my own exercises, and now that I have some independence back, getting my house in order.

And as for the shoes, they are crazy comfortable but VERY EXPENSIVE. I am debating whether the support they provide is worth the money, I don't know....I can't return to work in sneakers....

Hugs to all,
Karen

Hang in there Karen, every week will get better. I found everyone very supportive at first but I suspect they think I should be better by now . but everyone is busy with their own lives and it's easy for them to forget you are still struggling. Maybe this recovery will make me a better person with more patience and empathy for others!

Thanks, just one of those moments. And unfortunately had an awful night's sleep, and an uncomfortable day. Which is probably indicative I did too much yesterday - I can't seem to get this recovery and my level of activity right. It is Saturday night, my son is at his Dad's and I am icing and watching movies. Forcing myself not to indulge in a full blown pity party.
I think you are right, people were really supportive in the beginning. And by now it seems everyone thinks I should be up and about, back to my old self. While I am improving, I am also like darn, this still kinda blows. To your point, maybe this whole experience will make us more empathetic to others. Some people have really disappointed me in their lack of support and being there. I don't get it.

Maybe I need a glass of wine and some chocolate!!!!

Hi Karen,

I. Have been where you are, feeling so good about the progress I am making that I overdo it! Don't worry about it, rest, ice, pain meds, and you will be trying the same thing in no time.:th_heehee: I know, I love to push the limits.:wink1:

Of course you might be one of the sensible people that actually learn from what you put yourself through, unlike me.

These knees have given me a new lease on life, and even though I will have a revision of the right one May 4th, nothing will stop me!

God has been so good to me and I could not ask for more!

When I was cabin bound I would drive myself to mcdonald's just to get out of the house, and see normal people. Nobody could see me walk, so they just treated me like a normal person at the drive in window. Seriously, I thought I would be a cripple for life. But it gets better. Just wait! Congratulations and be good to yourself!.

Yep, people think this and that. And they will tell you how their great Uncle Louie had both knees done at age 75 and started skiing after 2 months. I've heard it all. Lol... They have no idea how ridiculous they sound.

Hi Karen, I really do know how you feel! As busy mums its hard to rest sometimes, especially when your feeling good. I found it best to pace myself. Do a little, sit alot!! Even if you feel ok SIT down and rest cause that nasty pain will catch up with you! Keep smiling and be patient, you will be good soon.
As for the sneakers - wear them with wide leg trousers and no one will even notice!!:secretaea: Dawn x

....I can't return to work in sneakers....

Says who! I did and nobody said a thing, nobody looked sideways at me, they just accepted me being there. I even chaired a seminar in them for 30 other Accountants, stood at the front to welcome everybody etc. I guess if you work somewhere with a corporate uniform then it could be a problem.
