Been having a rough go of it at work even though it has been desk duty. I make sure I stretch, ice and elevate my knee. Guess it will take a little bit for my knee and the muscles to get used to a work routine. It was nice at home to be able to lay back and elevate my my toes above the nose whenever I needed to or sleep when I am tired. I am having a hard time getting to sleep at night so I am tired all day. I come home and basically crash on the couch. I got up this morning and I was in pain it got a little worse during the day. The pain was along the inside area of my knee and was painful when i bent my knee. It is feeling a lot better now. Have not been to the gym in a week have been too tired. Will try to get back into working out next week

All in all I still feel better than before.
It sounds like you're doing the right things at work. I think it's ok to come home and crash right now. It does get better. Hang in there.

Had a rough weekend knee is sore all over but then again I have done more this past week than I have done the last couple of weeks. ON a positive note I can wak around the house without using the cane too much. Will take it pretty easy the rest of the day in prep for another fun filled week at work. Sleep and i still are not getting around. Sleep seems to want to come visit me when it feels like dropping in not when I need it to visit me. Could be because I am so tired when i get home I can not stay awake then I don't get a good nights sleep. Thats alright because these minor iritations will pass and I will be getting around without problems of a bad knee

Had a blast watching the fireworks yesterday until a firework started a fire under the car next to me. I grabbed my bottle of water and threw it under the car. I then got another bottle and went back to try to douse the flames. Fortunately my friend yelled to me to move because the driver had jumped in the vehicle and was backing out. Somehow I remembered to plant the good foot and spin away from the vehicle. I got out from behind the vehicle without being hit. Scared the heck out of me but I did not injure my new knee it was a little sorer when I got up this morning but I iced it, elevated it and babied it all day and it forgave me. fortunately there were no kids behind the vehicle when the guy backed out and nothing was damaged by the small fire which was quickly extinguished.

Talk about your exciting 4th of July's! But it's a bit more excitement than I would have wanted. Am relieved that you and your knee made it out safely. Take care.

Mary,

I am so thankful that your new knee didn't suffer too much, and that no one was hurt!

Now that was scary!!! So glad you are okay!!! And hooray for a good, strong new knee!!

I am still having trouble getting my energy up I go to work and by the time I come home I am exhausted. I only work 5 hours days right now. I've only been back to work for about 3 weeks I certainly hope this gets better. On a good note my knee is not hurting as bad and the swelling is going down more. I still feel like I have tight bands around the knee buit I am sure this will all go away. Still very happy that I have had this done.

Gosh, Mary, you're only about 4 months post op. You're really doing very well. Working, even 5 hours, has stress associated with it that really works on stamina. You are actually doing a lot--so swelling is to be expected. That tight rubber band feeling does persist. It too is the result of swelling. It was sometime during month 5 for me that it began to fade away.

Keep up the good work---I'm leaving you with a little friend to make you smile.
[Bonesmart.org] Finally made it

Your little friend did the trick and made me smile. Just found out at work that while I was on FMLA I did not accrue vacation time so I am running out of money sooner than I thought. I was tempted to tell the doctor I feel great so I can get released to full time but that might cause problems later on. I have not gone through all of this just to risk messing it up so if we determine another month of limited hours are in my knees best interest I will deal with it. I put in for time out of the sick leave pool hopefully it does not take too long to get approved.

Well we decided I needed another month of limited hours. I did not go through all this just to mess up my knee by doing something stupid. So I will tiughten the belt and stretch my limited funds I will get through this with the help of some dear family and friends. I am feeling my leg is getting stronger and am having alot less pain which is good because I fear I have developed an allergy to Tramadol. I kept breaking out in hives when I took it. I used Benedryl and that was helping but then the side effects got worse yesterday my bottom lip swelled up and my eyes got red, itchy and watery. Swelling in my face and vision problems scared me so I am now using just my motrin it should be enough I will find out soon

Yes, with those symptoms definitely stop taking it. If the motrin doesn't cut it call your doc.

Have not been on in awhile my allergies have been getting worse I come home from work take a benedryl and basically crash out. I have not taken any medications but my metformin for almost two weeks. The pain is not too bad and I can handle it with ice and elevation. Will go back to the doctor and see if I can get a referal to a dermatologist. I am thinking if it had been the tramadol the symptoms should have gone away by now. The itching is killing me and yesterday my face swelled up I am starting to get worried. The only thing that worries me is that I am having an allergic reaction to my knee. I certainly hope that is not the situation I would think if I was going to have a reaction to the metal in my knee it would have happened sooner. I am keeping a diary of what I take and when I have the reactions

Well they don't know what is causing my hives and have not done any testing jus told me to change my soaps. I have not had major outbreaks so maybe the benedryl is helping. Still having some pain but it is manageable. I actually was out playing with my grandbabies. 3 of them will be moving away when their daddy PCS's next ye but there is always skype. If my disability ever comes through and I retire then Iwill be able to travel and visit them.

I am sorry I have not been on much lately but have been having serious computer issues pages take forever to load and computer locks up I might have to take it to the shop. I keep all of you in my prayers. I hope to get my computer running smoothly soon.

Dear Mary, I am so sorry your previous post went unanswered. That's not our usual way, I'm sure you know that.

I can assure you that your symptoms are in no way indicative of a metal allergy. Much more likely a new washing power or soap or something you've eaten.

I could be wrong but I don't think you need a dermatologist but an allergist, if you haven't seen one yet. You need to find the source of your allergy(ies). On another note, we had similar surgery dates, if you recall, and I haven't been on this board for awhile either. I went back to work in early August. It's been difficult as the knee tends to get very stiff quickly. But I'm blessed to still have a job and I try to make the best of every day. I recently saw my OS for a followup and asked how long it would be stiff and swollen. He told me approximately 1 yr from my surgery date. It's been 6 mos so I guess I have awhile to go. Hope you are doing well.

I am going to have to make an appointment with my GP so I can get a referal. I had been having relatively mild outbreaks the past few weeks. The last two days though have been really rough and have had several severe outbreaks. While I am waiting to get an appointment I will go back to making a daily diary. Thanks Jo I was starting to get worried about the metal in my knee since it was the only thing that had changed in my world.

lynne I am doing better each day. It seems to get easier as the time goes on but I am still having some pain but is nothing like it was before. My knee still gets stiff and i really notice when I get tied up at work and don't have time to get up and stretch. My knee loves to remind me not to ignore it. We are at the halfway mark and I am so happy with my progress so far.

I had a co worker tell me I am not getting along to fast. He is needing a knee replacement himself. he told me he heard that after a week you should up and about. I explained to him that he heard wrong. Loloks like my computer is working better now yeah:yay:

Had a bit of a scare earlier this week. I was walking and it felt like my knee was going to give way adn I slipped. Fortunately i caught myself before I fell down on my knee. WhenI got up the next morning I had pain shooting down from my hip. I think I pulled a muscle in my butt when i twisted to hip to protct me from falling on my knee. I have been doing nothing but going to work and coming home and back to elevating, icing and medicating. Still a little sore but feeling better than I was

How are you now?

Hi Kneeper I am doing better. Muscles around the knee are a bit stiff and if I do too much walking my knee lets me know i went to far but we are improving I have been down this road before I know to let my knee be the tour guide and try not to get frustrated when I am moving a bit slower than i was. Spending the weekend with 2 of the little ones who are fixing to leave next year we had a blast and made lots of memories.
