Bilateral THR Double in December - Done!

@LD of Michigan

Ahhh, the voice of reason. That's exactly what I needed to hear.

I'm feeling pretty good, which I know can lead to being over confident and to overdoing it.
Taking it easy isn't something I'm particularly good at, but I'm trying to learn.

Thank you!!!!!!

@Elf1
Thank you for your suggestions. I've been trying to smush pillows around me, but they aren't really doing anything.
My cat loves that I'm on my back and not rolling around all night, she can stay put happily on top of me.
I think I will talk to my surgeon, I'm only 3 weeks post op so I probably just need to chill out for another week or so.
:)

I'm three weeks post-op as of today and feeling great!

I went to the gym yesterday!!!!

My gym is only 5 blocks or so from my house, so it's a short walk. I did a little bit of a workout, mostly cables. The seats on any machine or bench are too low, so I had to get creative with standing exercises, but I like getting creative and just moving felt great. I'm staying away from free weights for the moment, (anything over 10 lbs) just to be careful with balance. I think it goes without saying that I'm not doing any lower body exercises other than the stuff from PT.

My kids will be away this weekend so I will be alone at night for the first time since my surgery. I'm not nervous at all, I'm alone all day now that they are FINALLY back to school. I'm actually thinking I'm going to be lonley without them! (No offense to my cat).
I've decided that 2020 will be the year that I learn to cook, so maybe I'll do some kitchen experiments...

Me too. I find it difficult to not be juggling a zillion things at once. Imagine time to actually watch a full movie or read a bit.

My PT said I could go back to the gym with limitations too, as I she could see I was pretty comfortable and smart not to over do it during PT time! Good for you.

I need to get my right knee driving ready before I can get back to that.

Taking it easy isn't something I'm particularly good at, but I'm trying to learn.

:yes: :yes: :yes: :yes: :yes: all your friends will agree with the Or So part.

Really?:thud:
Oh my stars, you are worrying me already.
I am the resident Cassandra, I know...but please give that new hip and revision hip some more time before tapping into those valuable energy stores that are so needed to heal traumatized soft tissue, muscles and tendons.
Lots of healing happening and want these to be our Forever Hips!

Gym?!!! :wow: I think I was just laying my cane down around three weeks. At least making a concious effort. Please be careful and take it slow.
I wish you luck in the kitchen. Not my forte' I only have one because it came with the house. :heehee: I'm an annoying neat freak though and like to decorate so hopefully that makes up for my lack of not producing gourmet meals.

It's nice when you regain the confidence in being alone again after surgery. Feels like a big milestone, especially to the independent "leave me alone, I can do it, myself peeps (me)" You're doing well!
Have a nice Sunday and great week.

Luckily I don't have to worry about driving because I don’t own a car. I do have to learn to navigate the subway, which will be a challenge, mostly because of the people. It's so crowded on the train, on the platform, on the stairs, and needless to say everyone is rushing and of course on their phone too.
Cooking has been going ok - a few meh recipes and one total homerun. That one will be added to the roster. If I didn't have to feed these teenagers, I would never cook! I have a friend who uses his oven for storage, and not for pots and pans like I do. (tiny kitchens)

@Mojo333 and @Layla

I am taking it easy, don't be worried! While I have been going to the gym, I don't do much there, and what I do is very mild. It's a good place to do my physical therapy exercises because they have those high tables used for PT and massage. It feels good to move as I've always been physically active, but I am NOT pushing it. It may have taken me almost 50 years to learn, but I finally know that it's not worth it to overdue it, especially with healing!!

FOUR WEEK POST OP UPDATE! :)

I'm going into the office today 9-3 four weeks post-op to the day!
I've been working from home all week and I have a bunch of meetings today that I need to be at.
I am taking a cab - no way am I ready to battle the subway at rush hour!

Taking it easy is always a challenge for me, and with outpatient physical therapy yesterday and working form home, I was passing out at 8:30pm the past two nights!
Too tired to even Netflix and chill!

Pre TKR (as knee pain and instability increased and my walking speed decreased) I ALWAYS use a cane when traveling/ long distances/ flights etc. Or where public transit might come into the picture. I was not moving very fast those days, and IMO, I'm finding basic civility decreasing all too often, everywhere, especially in settings involving public transportation!

I've fount that a cane usually INVOKES manners and congeniality that otherwise might be absent in public/ during travel! So perhaps as you adapt a cane might be useful, as there's less chance of problems from others not paying attention - rushing about in their OWN world.

Awesome - probably a good choice. I used Uber and Lyft a great deal. I just could not deal with being pressed upon or rushed about in the public transpo scene. Nope.

Have a grand day and treat yourself with something just for you at the end of it!

@jenTjenT wow, you are really moving along. No way at 4 weeks would I have been up to going in from 9-3 and I only had one THR. I was still heavy into my afternoon naps and that would have interrupted those! :rotfl: I know you're feeling really good but thinking you're going to be snoozing before 8:30 tonight. Take care, grab some ice and let Netflix watch you!

Four weeks!!

You sound like you are really coming along. I feel your pain with feeding teens. It’s a bottomless pit. I hope work was ok. Very brave so early on. People really make me nervous. We live in an area where people are always rushing and looking at phones. Don’t probably mean to be rude, but just don’t take any precautions when walking by other people. Assuming you are still using a cane or two. Hope you enjoyed your alone time. It’s rare here, 1 week behind you. I routinely head to bed by 8:30. Completely worn out by then too. Happy Weekend!

@Elf1

You called it! 8:30 and i'm asleep :sleep:
I've been mostly working from home, but I have gone into the office a few times for a short day. I've been falling asleep at 8:30 every night! I don't even bother with Netflix because I'm too tired to watch it. My dad use to say he was just "resting his eyes" when he would doze off early with the lights on, I'm adopting that phrase.

I am so thankful to have this flexibility at work because the short term disability was only half pay, and my kids weren’t interested in half-eating. :loll:

I am amazed myself at my speedy recovery, I think it was a lot longer and slower 20 years ago with just one hip. I'm not pushing myself and definitely listening to my body. I'm going to guess that my age and fitness level are contribuiting factors. And ice! I'm all about the ice!

@JMM2019
I accidentally responded to you in someone else’s thread with a long story about my first few weeks. Unfortunately it was deleted because it was in the wrong place. My bad.
My sister stayed with me the first week which was invaluable, after that just my 12 and 14 year old kids which were helpful, but also a lot of work.
Please feel free to ask me anything !

@Fit4Family

I feel like I should just dig a tunnel directly to the grocery store.
The fridge is packed pull and then <poof> it's empty!
Your description of people in your area is exactly like NYC. People are rushing and oblivious to people around them, and they are usually looking down at their phones. Using the crutch was great, everybody takes notice and is careful, the crutch - nada. Everybody has a crutch it seems so nobody even notices. I am VERY careful and try to take quieter blocks when walking around.
I'm jealous that you have an "up" to escape to! I have a small 2 bedroom apartment that I share just with my kids. 2 years ago I decided to give up my bedroom so each kid could have their own room, my daughter was more than ready to lose her little brother and have some privacy. It was a great solution and I'm happy that I did it, but it means that my bed is in the living room.
I just call it "the room" because it' living room /dining room / kitchen all in one, and now my bed is in there too. It's not as weird as it sounds. Anyway, I have nowhere to escape to! My 12 year old son has fallen in love with sleeping on the couch, and I'm a pushover so I let him I know he will grow out of it eventually (will he???) Maybe I need to start kicking him out!?
