Bilateral THR Double Hippy and so grateful

Hi. I am doing extremely well. I had hardly any pain at all. Am using my neighbors Hurrycane and driving. Had to step up to help where I could with some Grandkids when a family member in NZ got sick. To be fair, I am helping downstairs and driving and their dad is doing the rest. I am trying to eat properly to aid in recovery, and am working with my dietician to make sure I get the proper mactronutrients. I am being extremely conservative in how I move. I start outpatient PT next week and have your admonition about PT close to my heart.

I’m so glad I did the Bi

Thanks for the update. You're doing great.
Please stay in touch, we'd love to follow your progress.
A great week to you!
@hellysully

Update: well I went to Costco with my DH. I thought it wouldn’t be too hard, but I certainly overestimated my endurance. I guess baby steps are the order of the day. I love the PT. I can feel my muscles getting used to the idea that the pain has gone. I am flying to the right coast October 4. Wish me luck. Yes! I will wear the dreaded stockings. :loll:

Hey @hellysully :hi:
Happy One Month Anniversary! (a day early)
That type of activity is tiring early on. You feel okay while you're walking around and then it hits you.
Take it slow, it will come.
Safe travels and good luck with your flight out east in a few weeks. Pace yourself.
I hope you have a great time.

Question for all, especially the moderators: are there any threads about scar treatment? I have some expired scar treatments (silicone) and also my PT suggested Mederma. Any opinions from your collective wisdom would be appreciated. :roseshwr:

In the past we had the policy of telling people not to use anything on their wound prior to it completely healing up. And even then we would tell them that massaging things into the wound in the hopes healing would progress better wasn't necessary.

However, that has changed since we became aware of hypochlorous solution (HOCL)....and specifically a hypochlorous product called ACTIVE Scar Shield. I encourage you to click on the link in the blue NavBar and read our newest educational section on Wound Care. In it you will see references to using HypoChlorous Solution as soon as possible on any wound as it is a strong antibacterial solution. In addition, the sooner a person is able to use it, the sooner the product can start working to improve the appearance of a scar.

We have also created a Hypochlorous Fast Facts sheet that is available via either of these links on the website:

Hypochlorous Fast Facts

ACTIVE Scar Shield is available only through BoneSmart via these links:

You can go to the Wound Care tab to read about how wounds heal, the Hypochlorous Fast Facts page to learn more about a product you can actually use from Day 1 to promote better healing and the link to purchase ACTIVE Scar Shield.

If you have concerns, print out the Fast Facts sheet and discuss it yourdoctor (who may very well have no clue about hypochlorous solution!).

One of our administrators has also been testing ACTIVE Scar Shield and reports it has worked wonders for mosquito bite itch, the itch of poison ivy and on small scrapes and cuts.

You're welcome!
It wasn't available when I had my surgery so if you decide to try it..let me know what you think.
Take pictures of the progress even.
It sounds very promising and is safe as it is naturally found in the body.

Happy Two Month Anniversary!
How are you doing? We'd love to read an update from you, if you have time to leave one.
Hopefully the new hips are working out well for you!
Best of luck moving forward!
@hellysully

6 month update for me. Back to Pilates reformer, exercise classes at gym, hiking etc. Arthritic knees are being annoying but hiking poles help with that. This forum was excellent before and after my surgery. Thanks to the moderators and all others who have been so supportive.

@hellysully Thanks for checking in! So glad to see you are enjoying life again. Hopefully those knees will behave for a bit longer!

:wave:@hellysully, my "Both at Once?!" Pal.
:chuckmarch:

Hope your spring is sweet!:flwrysmile:
