THR Dislocation mid flight

Sorry, I've been AWOL the last few days - bit under the weather and all!
for results of isotope bone scan. Again does not seem to show any problems with the implant but still have this collection of fluid (seroma) behind the hip. Muscle damage also evident but unsure whether that was post dislocation or there before.
To be expected, I would imagine. After a dislocation.
I know I still feel this hip does not feel the same as before the dislocation
Of course it will feel that way. A full dislocation is a very traumatic event and very likely to leave you with such symptoms
The consultant wants to examine my hip under general anaesthetic, withdraw some of the fluid to analyse it and put some radio opaque dye into the joint to see what is happening. He is not ruling out a need to revise the whole hip or maybe just the stem
Sounds very thorough to me. Remind me which hospital you are attending?

Thanks Josephine and hope you are feeling better.....I agree he is being very thorough. It is Wrightington hospital so can't get much more specialist than that!

He did say I wouldn't be waiting long so fingers crossed x

I'd really love to comment but scan reports are way outside my area of expertise! Basically I only 'do' xrays!

Best of luck getting answers this week.
Thinking of you:loveshwr:

Best of luck to you on Wednesday @Annie M So very sorry for your struggles.
Please keep us posted. We'd love to be of support.
Healing hugs to you :console2:

Thanks everyone and I will update after Weds. Run of bad luck continuing as hubby needs a coronary stent and we should be in Goa now but cancelled due to both of us.

Insurance will only refund the deposit as they said I had not told them the results of the tests

We are now claiming due to hubby so fingers crossed we can get his back

Update on the examination under anaesthetic today

He started by saying I have very flexible joints!

Looks like I am heading for revision surgery as the hip starts to come out of the socket backwards at just slight internal rotation and there is also evidence of some movement of the stem @Josephine (pistoning))/subsidence)

I go back to see him in outpatients in 4 weeks and with a bit of luck will have a date for surgery

I have to obviously avoid internal rotation, twisting and bending down past 90° but I was already doing this anyway. I am petrified of another dislocation and although that complication can never be ruled out completely he said by altering the angles of the acetabulem and the stem a better fit can be acheived

I feel much better now knowing what is happening so onwards and upwards!

On the positive side 10 weeks post op from right trapeziectomy and no arthritic pain in thumb

Hi @Annie M
Sorry to hear you had to cancel travel due to the issues you've mentioned.
Wishing you comfort and peace of mind as you move toward revision surgery.
Please stay in touch. Hope your week is peaceful!

Thanks Layla and I am just relieved that something is going to be done as don't think I could physically mentally or emotionally cope with anothet dislocation

@Annie M Wow, just read your thread. You've been through a lot. My prayers go out to you for a quick and effective resolution. There is light at the end of the tunnel. :friends:

It is now official! I have been listed for left hip revision surgery and hopefully get a date around the end of May

Hope you have a Good Day:curtsey:

I have my date for my hip revision surgery.......27th June and it seems I have hypermobility syndrome as they found my knees to straighten beyond normal range. My GP has referred to a rheumatologist to confirm a diagnosis of EDS (Elhers Danlos Syndrome) all I have read point to this though. Has anyone any experience of this?

Hi Annie,

I have EDS and have had several successful joint replacements, including one hip in 2009 and one just this past May 29 (so too early to say, with this one!). Please feel free to PM me.

The key I think is to find a surgeon who is experienced with complex hip and knee replacements/revisions, including for patients with EDS. Ask your surgeon which prosthesis s/he will use and why the think it will work for someone whose soft tissue does not support the implant as normal ligaments and tendons would. I traveled to New York City for my surgeries to find someone knowledgeable about EDS.

Good luck. Lots of people with EDS do go on to have successful joint replacements, but it takes research to find the right surgeon!

Happy to hear you have a surgery date @Annie M
Wishing you comfort as you await the 27th.
A peaceful weekend to you!
