Until the swelling has gone down there's no point in exercising. Get the swelling down by icing/elevating, then begin slowly. The first month should just be resting, icing, elevating with easy movement. There's time for exercise when the knee is healed and less traumatized.

It's been four weeks today and I did rest in rehab with limited exercising. The pain today caused me to have a meltdown. The Vicodin is making me nauseous, the Lasix is making me week and my knee is still swollen and red. So discouraged but I was warned that the revision would be more difficult. Taking a partial implant out and putting in a total knee has to have caused trauma plus the loss of blood made me anemic. I guess I was borderline for having a transfusion but haven't had bloodwork since I left the hospital. I am wondering if maybe that is part of my problem. And I am supposed to be moving at the end of March. Don't know how i am going to do that!

Ask your doctor for some medication to prevent nausea. You need the pain medications but there is no need to feel nauseated.

Are you taking Lasix for a heart condition, or is it just to try to reduce swelling. If it's just for your leg swelling, I think you should ask to stop taking it.

I had a revision from a partial to a total and for me it was no harder than my original recovery. I think that your anaemia is probably contributing to your general feeling of being unwell. Ask your own doctor if you can have a blood test, to determine if you need to be taking iron supplements.

You should still be spending most of your time resting if you can, especially as you still feel weak.

Can you postpone moving? Doing it in a month's time is asking a great deal of yourself and of your knee. In a month's time, you will probably not be strong enough to contribute much physical work towards the move.

Had my bloodwork. 11.5 which is very low for me. I am generally 13.9. Knee is still swollen--2 inch difference between other knee. It's hot and red. Have not had PT in 5 days. Have been icing, resting, elevating, probably sitting too much. Sent Saturday sitting while daughter went through my clothes to pare down my closet. It is disgusting how much clothes I have and since I do not work any longer, most of it I do not wear. So the donation center is making a killing. Pain is still bad. So discouraged. Have gone back and read all the info on recovering from knee surgery. It's been 6 weeks and I still have only about 80 ROM. Of course I was in an immobilizer for a week and a half due to my leg bleeding so I missed a week of PT and left the Rehab with only 60 ROM. I don't feel like I am progressing at all but my therapist thinks I am. Don't know what I am doing wrong. So discouraged.

You can gain ROM months after a TKR. Have you tried rocking the pedals on a recumbent bike? I was in an imbolizer for a month. A full month of not bending a month old TKR, but a 3 weeks after my OS said I could go without the imbolizer I was able to make a full rotation of the bike.

I did 5 rotations on the recumbent bike today at PT after rocking on the bike, albeit backwards and not forward. LOL I am up to 90 ROM and did better at PT today. I can't believe that pain when at rest. Still taking the Hydrocodone but trying to limit it to 1 instead of 2. Going to see if I can get into the driver's side of my car tonight. Tired of asking people to do things for me.

As long as you're taking hydrocodone you shouldn't be driving. So even if you can get in/out of the driver's seat you'd be taking a chance driving while taking pain meds.

Tramadol can make you sleepy. Best not to drive while taking it.

Thanks, Celle! Haven't even had my surgery but I believe in worrying way in advance.
