Hi everyone! I went to the Unit yesterday for a final blood test..group and save, because I'm having two knees done they will have a couple of units of blood put by in case I need a blood transfusion. Saw a different nurse this time with a student nurse who was very jolly!
The student nurse said, with evident glee, that she was going to be in theatre om Monday...gulp...hope she learns a lot!! The nurse was very pleasant indeed. I asked if I would be consented to ? proceed, as I'm scheduled for partials, and she said yes, that was usually the case. I also asked about how aggressive the physio was, and she said that they were two pleasant female physios who were encouraging, but gentle, so this put my mind at rest no end!
I had seen this rather austere German guy when visiting before...so at least he's not the only one! The nurse assured me they would all take good care of me, which was very reassuring and welcoming, and I left there in a lighter frame of mind.
So then I went and did a little shopping! Bought some more pillows, for the car, to rest my legs on during the ride home. Bought a patio chair cushion, for some extra elevation...a tip from Carolina girl, and a new vase in case I get some flowers????? Will now feel pretty silly if I don't!
Today has been a day of tying up loose ends. did a supermarket shop, bought in some snacks to take into hospital, another tip...for settling the stomach after taking the nightime meds! some nuts and dried fruit, and I'll take in some oatcakes, and cheese, and some blueberries too! yum. Made some more food for the freezer etc. Still got more stuff on my list! so it's going to be another busy day tomorrow!
I also found some templates on the computer for medicine charts, and physio log. Taking on board how often the importance has been emphasised here, of taking the full amount of painkillers at the prescribed intervals, I thought a chart would be really helpful, as it might be so easy to forget when they are due. As they exercises are best done 1/2 hour or so after taking a dose, I thought a chart for that might help too, and will prove to my husband that I am doing them! Hopefully what the hospital physios suggest will tie in with the advice here! If not I will be making my own adaptations!
Only two more sleeps...Yikes!

Then we will be doing this after a few weeks.
.
and some of this
a little more of this,
I'm hoping your surgery will go quite well. Dinah, you are well prepared. Thank God you found Bonesmart way before your surgery. I'm mainly praying for your piece of mind and that you maintain your sense of humor through the next few days.
You are not alone and you'll be glad you did it one day.
Said the girl who is dreading doing it again.
I know it's a necessary evil, that will give me my life back and you yours too.
in the hospital.
every good wish for you guys too! I'm not doing too badly. Hubby took me out for Sunday lunch today which was nice.
So we've swapped chairs around, and the recliner is now in place! Found a swivel seat that we had for my mother to help her getting in and out of the car, and that is now in place in the car for the journey home. Jewellery is removed, nail varnish is all gone!!..gonna go and have a practice with the cryo cuff now and then put it in place. Still got to sort some magazines out to take...email a few more friends, pay a bill or two!!!! you can see I'm getting a bit manic!!
and I will be getting visits from my friends in York (where the Unit is) who I haven't seen in a while, so I am looking forward to that!
Only hope I'm in a fit state to enjoy their visits...not to doped up!
Oh well we'll see!
Talk to you all soon....
of joy reading your post. You're making me happy about going back in for my left knee. You'll be just fine Dinah. Can't wait to hear from you on the other side.
Hugs!
