Fractured Neck of Femur/Pinning Complicated hip Surgery

Worked like crazy in the pool with my beautiful friends who took time out of their lives to drive me there. If It wasn't for them... well!

Freedom! I drove for the first time today! Took myself to the pool and shops. And hopefully can go back to work on light duties soon. I can't believe it after being in such a dark place a few weeks ago. Thank you for your great support network, I'm so glad I found you xx

Happy Three Month Anniversary!
How are you doing? Is your gait improving? If not and you're still limping here's a tip -
Try heel-toe walking when / if you're limping. Let your heel hit the ground first followed by toes.
It takes a concentrated effort but I believe you'll notice a difference. Give it a try.

Hi Layla, thank you! Yes, I'm improving. Still being careful on unsteady ground but went out for lunch the other day and no stick needed. When walking around the house my mantra is " heel, toe, heel, toe, heel, toe". The greyhounds just raise their eyebrows as if to say the mad woman has returned! Slowly and surely. As my surgeon said " don't be a hero". Patience was never my forte but after walking lopsided for nearly 3 months I can't expect miracles.

Thank you! I was away for the weekend at the National Donkey and Mule Show.:horseriding: ( As a spectator ) Camped in my own stable with donkeys and mules on either side! They are such beautiful souls and when lights out not a sound. ( No snoring or other dubious noises) Did OK, only problem is still can't get up from the ground without hauling myself up the railings!:headbang: Did a lot of walking from different venues on uneven ground and pouring rain into the bargain. I was very careful and feel like my leg has much more strength. Slept very well on my bony bum on a thin mattress.:sleep: All in all a great weekend. I feel like I'm a member of the human race again:egypdance:Obviously wasn't doing last emoji!
 
Aye! Indeed. The judge was from the States, I could have listened to him talking all day long. Wasn't just a judge but gave loads of tips.
 
@Kodiak, you are doing very well! Glad you had a great time at the show. AND camped with the mules.. sounds wonderful. :horseriding: (best I could find)
 
Here we are again in amongst the madness. I can't walk properly however much I try, and and heard a comment from my friends's 86 yr old Mum. " That girl will never walk properly. I'm gutted!

You are only less than 5 months out from what you describe yourself as a complicated surgery.

Hopefully you are still babying your hip when needed as overdoing things always caused me to limp worse.
 
Yes, I am ! They expect me to move really fast and I can't do it. Och now, just needed to have a vent!

Slow and steady is the way to win this recovery race.
I "vented" and laid out my concerns on this forum often during my recovery and was thankful that those who have Been there and Done that could share and reassure me.
We are rooting for you @Kodiak :friends:
 
@Kodiak oh for goodness sakes! Please don't feel gutted,, it's so early in your healing game. I was still struggling with my gait at 5 months.. maybe not like you are but enough to be discouraged.

I've had so much more improvement since then and so will you!

Hi All, just a wee report on how things are. Was supposed to go back and see the surgeon on 29th April but because of Covid went back Wednesday 3rd June. Didn't see the OS but one of his underlings. Lovely guy. Asked me to lay down and raise the leg.. nearly kicked him in the face! I didn't realise my leg could get up that far!. Very happy with my progress. I did work hard in the pool when it was open but it closed early due to the pandemic. I have been walking dogs with my friend up and down uneven ground.. I still have a pain in the butt ( literally) but I can flippin' walk straight!
Underling reported to OS and he said one more visit to see if the blood vessels die in the ball joint ( don't know tech terms ) which can show up 12 mths later. They always x ray. OS said I will boot you out after that! Not being horrid, he knows I hate the place. Am happy with it. Apparently huge injury which is normally a high impact car crash.

They will watch for avascular necrosis. This is where the blood supply to the bone is cut off. This can develop years later but no sense in worrying about it. Time to get on with the activities you enjoy.
