Oh how much do we love these extra aids - they are a Godsend. So glad you went that route.

I really don't regret getting crutches to help me through this last patch - I sort of thought I was caving in and "giving up", but finally reasoned with myself that they were actually invented for the purpose .....
How dense and stubborn can I be?! :beg::shrug::boohoo:

Met with the OS today --really like him and had a good conversation. I am in his "book" for July 6. We will be in Alaska for two weeks before June 20 so have next appointment for June 21 where the pre-op testing etc process will be set up. He does an anterior approach using the special table -- missed the name of it! We live in a small two-hospital city so am really pleased that this is now being offered here.

Was it the Hana table? @Cynthia777 was discussing it In another post.
I wonder if my OS will use one, it looks pretty cool.

Chihuahuan: I'm hoping you share more about your journey. I had a BTKR in October and just met with my surgeon this week to discuss a LTHR. Now that my knees are aligned and working correctly, my arthritic left hip aches all the time. I asked my surgeon if he would do an anterior (I've heard recovery is faster) but my surgeon said he has gone back to posterior.

@BusterBeans While my right knee works well it certainly gets sore at times even though it is aligned properly. The OS observed that I'm not putting weight on my right hip when I'm sitting. The x-rays show that I have bone spurs because of bony overgrowth on the femoral head that is pushing against the socket and causing all the problems. It is all to do with osteoarthritis. My knee surgeon only does posterior and was scheduling hips for October! I was not sure that an anterior was appropriate for me, due to previous abdominal surgeries, but after a thorough exam and lots of staring at the x-ray he said that I was. I have read that some surgeons are returning to using a posterior approach. I plan on sharing my journey --it is so important that we support each other :)

Horribly painful day after being at the gym yesterday! Pain seems to radiate from right hip across pelvis --calms down a little if I ice the joint. Afternoon naps have become routine when the pain subsides a bit. Hard to sit and be comfortable :bawl:

Ouch! Don't overdo things - it's not long until you get your hip and there's no point spending that time in more pain than you need to.

It's been a while since I posted on my "pre-op" thread. We had a wonderful vacation in Alaska. Sadly we both developed an upper respiratory bug since we came home. Saw my family doc today who has cleared me for surgery but I have to let him know if I'm not over the "lurg" by Friday. He has prescribed Keflex as nose is showing signs of infection. 9 days to new hip day but if we have to postpone I'm okay --as long it's not for too long!

I can't tell you how many of us caught something a couple of weeks before surgery! I hadn't been sick in years, but I caught a lung infection about 10 days to two weeks before surgery (I can't quite remember exactly). I was put on antibiotics and thankfully it cleared up. I think the pre-op stress must lower our immune systems. Hoping yours clears up too @Chihuahuan!

Hi Jen

Lovely to hear from you. I've not been on that much myself. I'm so sorry to hear that you and your husband caught a nasty bug. Like Cynthia said its our immune system every time.

I sincerely hope that this clears up soon and you can get this op done and out of the way.

I wish you luck Jen and hope that all goes well for you xxx

Love Ann
