THR Celebrating one at a time, encore!

OS has been in. Physio has been in and worked with me. I can go home this afternoon
I have two steps into house, so will be doing steps and car transfer on the way out.
OS said to just walk Physio showed me some stretches and strengthening exercises and kept my comments to myself! I can get my leg back in the bed without the lifter by this mornings trip to loo. Can’t believe it came back that fast. I’ve been icing like a mad woman from the minute I came round yesterday. The first thing I asked for. No swelling. Can’t see any bruising yet, but I’m sure it will come.

@Alitm , Yes, it was that way with me too. It can be surprising how quickly we bounce back. I am just over 8 weeks out, and I am walking around (not running) and everything is so very very normal I can hardly believe it. Your op hip will be 8 weeks old and that much stronger by the time you go in for next THR, so I'm guessing and hoping it will all go very smoothly indeed for you.

Good for you @Alitm ! It will feel soooo good to be home! I never realized that one of life’s great pleasures is going to the bathroom without having to wait for someone to bring you!

Sounds like you’re doing great!

Should be that way, right?! On the cusp of 7 weeks, I had my first 8-hour sleep since surgery #1.

I remember being so shocked when the PT asked me to lift my right leg when I was lying on the couch and I couldn't lift it even half an inch, only tense my quad. Suddenly a couple of weeks later, I could lift it almost a foot.

I’m afraid to jinx myself, but I feel really good @Alitm I’m 6 days out and so far today have only taken Tylenol for pain. I stopped the Tramadol this morning but won’t hesitate to take it again if pain increases.

One thing you can’t take from me is my ice and lounge doctor!

Edited to add: back on Tramadol- knew it was too soon:blush:

HOME!!! So wonderful! Icing and resting ahhh...
Can anyone guide me to @Josephine 's chart with the Tramadol and Paracetamol dosing that she followed? I've seen it posted several times, but can't remember where.

@Alitm Home Sweet Home! Nothing like it. You'll rest so much better there. Keep up with the icing. I iced pretty much non stop and can't complain about my recovery. Hope tonight is a peaceful one for you.

Alitm So Happy to hear that you are home already and that your recovery is off to such a good start ! (You give me hope) ! Hope you are getting good sleep too.

Yay...so glad you are home.
I've been doing hospital duty with stepmother today and nice to get it off the clinical setting!

Keep that Ice on AND meds on time...healing hugs coming your way!

@Lea61 You are going to do just great! I slept SO well last night in the hospital. I haven't been able to sleep with my left leg down when on my back (when I was training pre-op to back sleep) and had to put a cushion under it. Last night I slept with a pillow between my legs (which I do when I was side sleeping anyway, as it was the only way I could keep my hips comfortable) to stop me from crossing my legs over each other, and one under my left leg, but could have easily slept without the pillow under my left leg. My right thigh hip flexor is REALLY tight, and was very painful last night, but already it is starting to relax

@Layla Icing up a storm here! Hoping for a good night. I have been on Dilaudid and extra strength Tylenol at the hospital. I just spoke by phone with the pharmacist about the Dilaudid (which I have an Rx for) and the Tramadol (which I also have an Rx for). The discharge nurse never mentioned the Dilaudid. The pharmacist was excellent. Tonight I'll stick with the Dilaudid and Tylenol and see how my night goes, and then maybe down grade to the Tramadol and Tylenol (allowing for the Tylenol in the Tramadol) and see how that goes for a few days. I can always add in a Dilaudid if the pain spikes. I am icing like the Dickens too, all the time.

@Alitm I’m doing okay! Hip is feeling good. I learned a lesson about sitting yesterday: remember to kick your operative leg out. I didn’t and my knee bent when it shouldn’t have. Yeow! Piriformis syndrome still here and sleep could be better but I’m not in pain so I won’t complain....much.

Hope you have a good night!

@InkedMarie I think that IF we listen to our bodies, they tell us what to do. Sorry for your pain though...not fun at all. I now "get" the difference between the pre-op OA pain and the post op surgical pain! When did you start up with the Piriformis syndrome? Do you remember anything that caused it?

@Alitm I started with piriformis after my last hip replacement. Never had it before, was glad when it seemed to stop. Now, it’s back and I have no idea what causes it!
