I am now 3 days post-op but posting this here as I believe it definitely pertains to the preparation stage. I had a terrible time with the morphine, so violently ill I could not keep down even a sip of water. Anti nausea drugs were only marginally helpful. They gave me dilaudid eventually but it made me sick as well. I think this all may have occurred as a result of reflux that was worse than I believed it was. So get that reflux under control before you go. You will HAVE to take strong opiate pain meds afterwards, and it's kind of counterproductive if they make you so ill that you need blood transfusions. I am fine now, taking Lortab and Phenergan. My recovery is going splendidly. I walked 760 feet today and should go home tomorrow. But boy am I TIRED! More later, good people!

Congratulations on your walk and good news that everything is under control now with pain meds.

My big day is finally upon me - tomorrow! My knees had been feeling uncharacteristically good lately, giving me second thoughts. But then last night, they sang me an operatic duet and kept me up for most of the night. And today, climbing upstairs for the first time in ages, I had to literally drag myself up the railing hand-over-hand huffing all the way up. I guess it's not a moment too soon after all! Soooo.....thank you guys for the positive thoughts, moral support and overall terrific vibe - and I'll see y'all on the other side!
It sounds like you are absolutely ready to rid yourself of the pain and the limitations that your old knees have given you!

You are about to become a BTKR alumnus--I will be able to teach you the "secret handshake after your surgery!

I have said this before---I agree with what you are doing--if you are going to need to get both done, a BTKR--if you can do it and your OS agrees--is the best way to go! you will be amazed at how great you feel when you are fully recovered!

But boy am I TIRED! More later, good people!
Yep---your body is sending a large amount of energy toward the healing process---the surgical knee---or knees---are getting the lion's share. Pain meds also take their toll on you, too.

Sleep as much as you can---let that those surgical knees heal!

Good luck Mojo, I will watch your progress with interest, go well:friends:
