Thank goodness you won't be alone! Have "SO" bring you the WAX ear plugs. If they can block out a blaring snore next to your head, they could be most helpful while sharing a room with someone who moans and groans. Otherwise, you may decide to break out of jail too soon!

@Andmav Oh it is sooo good to hear from you! I'm really feel for you with the moaning roommate! Had one like that after my shoulder surgery (though roomie was younger - just a whiner and complainer ... ALL night long *GRRRR*) - I went home the next day :) But definitely insist on a different room! You do need your rest. The ear plugs/Ipod idea might help :)

Is there any way to fix up a nesting area on your main floor? I had to do that after my BTHR - set up rented hospital bed in my front room (with heavy drapes over big picture window so I was not "on display" to the neighbors) - my top floor bedroom has no bathroom on that level. That worked very well for me as I could access kitchen, bathroom, front door, etc without having to climb stairs. I was able to climb stairs ..... just did not want to do too much of that at first. I had my cousin with me for about a week after surgery - then housemate was available in the evening to help - but I was alone most of the day. Got along quite well :)

@djklaugh
Loved your post-thanks!!

Here it is 2:37am EST, so let me be the first to wish all BoneSmart friends-
☘"Happy St Paddy's Day"

Been awake since about 1pm
When nursing staff turned all room lights on to tend to the poor thing.
In the meantime
I wake up drenched in sweat
with an ongoing full back rash....

An hour later
I've peed (on commode)
Changed night clothes
Had a light snack of ginger ale & graham crackers.

Making plans for townhouse adjustments--
So I can be home by end of weekend--at the very latest!

NiteNite for now

You brave lady with the bilateral! My mom spent a week in rehab, and she had similar roommate challenges. (But only 1 hip) She needed that hospital bed, and she was ready in 7 days. I am 5 weeks out from THR and rented a hospital bed for downstairs for 4 weeks.....just in case you are ready for home earlier....and nervous about logistics. It was a lifesaver when I was anxious about stairs....I had a similar set up as @djklaugh. And were rented it and had it delivered in 24 hours....if you get desperate.

I had forgotten that you were bilateral! And living alone, so OF COURSE you need the rehab center. I was so shaky on my THR hip that I can't imagine having both of them done at the same time. You have such a great attitude. I am sure that your youth is a big help, too. ☘Happy St. Patrick's Day☘ to you, too! Hope you are wearing some green!

Happy St. Patrick's Day :froggies:  (frogs were the only green emoticons I could find other than the "I feel sick" ones - and hopefully those do not apply!)

Hoping you are feeling better, @Andmav and were able to get a good night of sleep!

Room changed
have a wonderful new roommate, Patricia.

He is adorable! How nice he was giving you a laugh! My first shower was at 9 days, too, and it was blissful. My husband took a pic of my hugely smiling lathered up head! My first big smile since the surgery, I think. Congrats on the stairs!

:egypdance: So glad you got a new room and a nice roomie! That will help your mood and sleep immensely I'm sure :chillpill:

Andy is a darling leprechaun - I bet he brought smiles to lots of faces at rehab today

And BRAVA for mastering the stairs :thumb:

Andymav,
So glad you got a new room & roomie & Andy arrived appropriately dressed for St Patrick's day! A friend of ours brought over corned beef, cabbage, potatoes & carrots and a loaf of Irish soda bread. It was such a pleasant surprise!
My hat is off to you with the bilateral THR! You're am rave soul. Can't imagine doing stairs with that. Hang in & keep that smile & positive attitude!

Hello alllllllllll

Day 11 PO
what a wild crazy ride....

Hmmm been in rehab since 3.16.16
PT/OT going well
although exhausting.
Ambulating with walker
walked up/down flight of 10 stairs today
No narcotics for 24 plus hours
Tylenol every 6 hours
Ambulated in and out of car seat on my own.

Flip side
two units blood transfusion 3.15.16
(Lotsa blood loss during BTHR)
Sat 3.19.16 headache/nausea/vomiting. Which resulted in no PT/OT 3.20.16
another two units blood 3.20.16

Great day today
Trying to "chill" more, not be great over achiever
Resting frequently
Am now able to get in and out of bed--all on my own☺️

Tomorrow, 1st f/u visit with OS, NP
Looking forward to a little road trip,
and tracking my progress w/OS team

THEN possibly being released to home (YIPPEE) Wed 3.24.2016

........sigh

Flowers from coworkers

Nite all! Andrea

Andrea, no need to be a great overachiever. Soft tissue and bone which have been injured during the surgery (in your case on both hips/legs!) need a certain amount of time to heal. You can't rush it, but you can delay it if you overdo things. Those are lovely flowers from your coworkers. Hope you sleep well tonight and get out on schedule!
