Latest update: I went to see the surgeon who does revisions last week, referred by the doctor who did my partial release(which ultimately didn't help)in 2020. He's also the head of the ortho dept. there. He had more xrays done and went over my last MRIs and xrays with me. He says the cup edge is sticking out slightly, and believes that's the main thing I'm feeling. One of the screws might also be at an angle where it is slightly poking places it shouldn't as well. As I'd learned from my original surgeon, my displasia was the reason he had to place the cup where and how he did-there is not much area there to work with, given the angle and size(is how I understand it). The new surgeon would try a different cup, perhaps also "dig out" my hip a bit to be able to place the cup deeper so as not to touch the tendon. Those are my options: revision, or live with it as-is.
Honestly I didn't really understand that revision surgery is
more intense/complicated than the original replacement. For some reason I thought it would be easier. D'OH! Sitting with the doctor having this realization of my choices wash over me, I felt my eyes well up. Couldn't have that! Shook it off saying "I don't think I want to live with this for the rest of my life". And I
don't-but unlike
@golfer67 , I don't now have a level of pain that is anywhere like my original pre-op pain, but it is there all the time and there are moments, with certain movements, it's sharp enough to make me gasp. So I guess I want to have the revision, but I'm also worried. Will it fix it? Or will I come out of surgery worse off than before? My weird hips are an X factor that worries me...so anyway, that's the story to date. Any surgery will be months off as that's how far out the doctor is booked. Thanks for reading! I really appreciate the stories here. Tonight I read through
@golfer67 's odyssey, which was a lot like mine with this thing-months of PT, shrugs from docs, shots, Xrays, etc. While I hate to think of anyone going through this stuff, it's comforting to know I'm not totally exceptional!
