A few questions that I've been pondering:

@DrToonz To add on to @Poppet s comments yesterday here are some practical hints that I have experienced 1st hand.

Don't let your spouse "rearrange" your end table or night stand. We put stuff there for a reason, so we can reach it (a small basket works nice to keep things from rolling off) without having to ask every time. Keep a tube of chap stick near. I also keep a pad to log when I take my pain meds so as not to get them out of whack.

Please tell them they don't have to ask you every 10 minutes if you are ok. I will tell you if I am not ok.

It isn't necessary to ask where you are going, every time you get up. There is only one place to go and if I have to stop and answer you, I may make more work for you. The lift seat in the bathroom is nice to have!

Don't let them rearrange the kitchen. I was going to make my protein shake and Harry had put all the parts in different places. I smiled and said now do you see why I keep them all close?

Don't move my house shoes every time I take them off. I can reach them just fine!

Can you tell I am beginning to get cabin fever?!

Yes those little baskets are great to catch the remotes, throat lozenges, chap stick lotion etc.

I have a bit of catching up to do because I went off to the coast to cure a case of pre op cabin fever. Yep, bedside commode over toilet works great. I STILL take my toilet seat riser with me to our coastal get away, but the toilets there are only 14 inches off the floor and I am tall. Then there was the hiking with a cane. Interesting. I do far better going up hill than down, probably due to my stationary bike rides. A "30 minute walk" was over an hour for me and painful, but the whole idea was to get out of my chair. In my personal opinion, I believe that a goal of hiking in Hawaii at six months is admirable, a good incentive and doable. You will have to train for it and see how things go. You can always go slow and have rest periods! Yes, you will be better in a year, but you will also be better in six months! A positive attitude is everything. As for pain meds, I am a believer, but then I am a nurse, who by profession, manages the heath care of over 60 elders. Pain is not a gain in my book. Pain is very individual and some people hurt more than others. Pain can sometimes cause crankiness or withdrawal from life. So, be prepared. Have your prescription from your doctor on hand and don't be afraid to take it.

Wishing you an uneventful, if not boring day on Tuesday! You've got this! You are amongst friends who care about you. Breathe in, breathe out. For DW, I know this is very hard for you, but you are the best! Relax, enjoy a little down time and let others help you. Breathe in energy, breathe out love.

Prayers of easy recovery coming your way.

Catherine

Tic Toc to....
[Bonesmart.org] A few questions that I've been pondering:

My surgery is on the 29th and I feel very much like you do - hurry up and let the anticipation be done with! We'll survive :)

You ready to walk down the aisle with me on Tuesday? I'm on at 9:30 am est. How are you holding up? You're brave to do bilateral -- I salute you. Best of luck Tuesday. Will be watching for your posts if I'm awake or in any way conscious. Here's to us!!!

@DrToonz @shrinkette heading out to my 1st trip out since I got home Thurs. Going to PT this morning and feel weak as a kitten. Took the waterproof bandages off but all I can see are the sterile-strips so will post battle scars later. Toons what time is yours scheduled tomorrow. I will be keeping both of you in my prayers!!

Good luck on PT outing. Weak as a kitten is par for the course after surgery -- probably ANY major surgery. Hope it goes well... Probably just gentle stuff, right? I have a feeling I will have one coming to house @ beginning, but who knows. I'm covered by Medicare, but who knows what is now available after some changes.

See ya on the other side!

Ellen

I waver between "I'm really excited to get it over with!" and "I think I'm going to throw up!". With an emphasis on "I think I"m going to throw up!".

My co-workers brought me a goodie basket today (I'm working today [as much as I can with my head completely elsewhere]) which included a back-scratcher, a whole bunch of carb-free snacks (I'm diabetic and use a very-low-carb diet to regulate that), and an awesome grabber tool. So thoughtful. They almost got me to tear up like a little girl.

@shrinkette : You'll be ahead of me. They will not tell me until after 3pm (6pm your time) what time I'm going in tomorrow, but they did tell me that I won't be first because apparently the Dr prefers to do bilaterals last. I assume noon or later. So..You're going to beat me to this one by a few hours! Let me know when you're done. I'm excited to join you on The Other Side.

@Freaky freak : Going to PT is what Weak As A Kitten is for! Enjoy it. :) I'll post as soon as I can form a coherent post-op sentence and get my thumbs to cooperate.

Here's to us.

You can do it - hope you wake up like I did - with no pain anywhere feeling great. Ok, the pain arrived later but be patient, that too will pass...

You are right, I would never let Harry see or read my posts either. He is my rock and I would not a buse him that way. PT was easy today. The director was excited to have an anterior approach, much less a bilateral. I thought he was going to do cartwheels! I came straight home and took a 2 hr nap per @Josephine s advise, donn't stay awake when you can sleep!
