Great - though I removed your address for security purposes! I'll shoot him an email.

Ok, saw Andy last night, he basically agrees with my surgeon that because of the joint being pristine that any surgeon would try and keep me away from a THR etc and concentrate on trying to repair the joint athroscopically. He can see from my scan images that there is indded some bone that could be taken away but also agreed that due to my last surgery taking 5 hours that it would have been too much to open me up at that stage to try and do any more at the time. He referred to a patient that he had performed a THr that day and said that if they had recieved the treatment i had then they would have been able to defer the replacement for a lot longer than having to have it done in their 30's.

He also stated that he would not even be charging me for the appointment as he did feel comfortable that he could offer me any further information, but did ask that if i need any further information from him in the future that i can call his secretary with the details and that he would happily call me one evening to discuss, so very pleased with his commitment.

He does know to the consultants that have treated me thus far and the only other alternative he could give me is to gain a 3rd opinion form a guy called Proffessor Damien Griffin, who is seen as the no1 arthroscopic surgeon in the uk and that his advice would be the absolute best that i could get.

So thank you for all the advice/information, i now feel much better in my diagnosis having had another surgeon agree with my planned course of action.

Terrific! I would trust Andy's word - you can take it to the back! At least now you know you have THE word on it! And he never even charged you? Wow!

He's a great guy - I really, really loved scrubbing for him. He always knew exactly what he was doing!

I've also been reading a bit about cam impingement and will be creating an article in the Library very shortly. Keep an eye out for it!

I'm pleased to come across another post hip arthroscopy thread.

I'd interested to read more about it, I'm just finding my way around here, so I'll keep an eye on the library area for more info.

Incidentally, I have a link to a pretty good video that explains impingement, if anyone is interested. It makes it very easy to understand. Not sure about the protocol re posting links on here, so I await guidance.

Gum168 - feel free to post the link in one of your posts here. If there is anything wrong (i.e. we don't allow any advertising on the site) we can correct it in the background.

If you don't know how to post a link here's the page in the How to Use the Forum area.

Yes please! I am putting together an article on cam impingement for the Library so that would be most helpful.

And you've answered the questions I posed in your own thread!

Hi Josephine and Jacey

I'll gather various bits of info I came across and post the links later.

Hi, Gum....welcome to BoneSmart! The link you have sounds interesting. I'll be looking for the link.

You might want to do some reading in the pre- and post-op hip forums as well as the library. Lots of information there too!

Well i got home today following an arthroscopy reverting to open osteoplasty last night. Surgeon used arthroscopy to have an initial look inside the joint and then opened me up. I had re-torn the labrum and had a flap that needed to be trimmed away.

So far so good, with very minimal pain as yet. I have been instructed to 'toe touch' on crutches for six weeks this time around and then look at partial weight bearing, looks like the recovery this time around is going to be very well protected.

Fingers crossed it works this time!

Good Luck with your recovery. Keep popping back and let us know how you are getting on.

All the best for a smooth recovery! Rest as much as you can. And do let us know how you are doing!

I do hope this works! Please check in and let us know how you're feeling.

Just adding my two pennorth regarding Andrew MAnktelow. He was my OS and I was so impressed with him from the minute I met him. He gave me a full consultation and sent me for hip xrays at a fracture clinic that I was attending due to a dislocated shoulder! He saw from my notes that I had hip problems and explained that this was his area of specialism. I am so pleased that I met him that day and consequently became one of his patients. My husband and I were totally convinced that he was the right person for the job. I think it's commendable that he didn't take your money and that speaks volumes about him as a person. Fantastic.

I'm pleased to hear that you have got yourself sorted and wish you all the best for your recovery.

I always knew he was going to do great things! He was a dream to scrub for and I loved it when I was assigned to his theatre.
He has a great sense of humour too!
