THR 5 days post surgery

I was not aware that we could go back to Ibuprofen! I am 25 days out and would like to be able to take an anti-inflamatory, it works so much more directly on the problem than the narcotics that just make you not care about the pain and taking them too much is risky for things like balance. I am going to check with my doctor, thanks for the heads up, right now I am not taking anything but could use a little ibuprofen occasionally!

Thanks for the information, I will check on that. I know ibuprofen does something to platelets and that is why you can't take it pre-op - bleeding problem. But I certainly don't want anything to interfere with the bone growth, I was actually hoping the anti-inflammatory action might reduce swelling. My swelling is not that bad but it bugs me anyway!

I am a little over 10 weeks out. For some reason i thought it was 12 or more. I am back at work, have been for a bit. I've noticed less pain, still some swelling, but also a noticeable lack of strength. Carrying certain things...like a baby in a seat...is really hard these days. It wasn't earlier on. So I'm either losing strength or getting lazy. Or losing strength because I'm getting lazy! 10 weeks is still early so I'm happy with my progression. It just has some unexpected regression at times. I usually don't need pain pills at all. Ice helps the swelling. For now just living life.

Take that ten weeks of not moving muscles much so its lack of stamina. This takes a wee while to build up. Sounds like you are doing well tho.

Almost 5 months post surgery now. I walk daily. Still days that it's hard to do some things. Muscle weakness. Mostly because I haven't kept up strengthening and stretching. Most days there's no pain and when there is it's my bursa or IT band. Those bothered me before hip surgery. One thing is for sure, if I don't strengthen seriously, I'll never be able to try running again. I'm content with the progress though. Glad that I gave my body time to heal and recover. My gait is almost completely back to normal. It feels easy to walk. Natural. Hang in there everyone. Patience does pay off.

Exactly! Gait and strengthening issues take time and patience. Sounds like you are making good progress! Well done!

Patience is really important! I still have slight "pain" but it isn't at all debilitating, just more of an awareness that everything isn't completely back to normal. This doesn't keep me from working out HARD but whenever I have felt actual pain I've quit whatever it was that was causing it immediately! I am writing from Luang Prabang, Laos. A World Heritage site and one of the most naturally beautiful places I have ever been. Walking briskly for a couple of hours a day is the only way to get in stay in shape here and it is really hard because stopping to buy things is a constant temptation!
