Bilateral TKR 4 Months Post BTKR

I have a question. I am 5 months post BTKR. My daughter noticed that both of my knees look bulbous, protruding, and swollen to her and she sat next to me to compare her knees to my knees. I don't feel any pain over the kneecap area, I don't think it's swollen but my knees do look different than my daughter's knees.

Can anyone please tell me how long is it for you before your TKR or BTKR kneecaps start to look like a normal knee. I am not referring to the incision "badge of honor" but rather the shape of the knee itself.

Is it normal for some swelling to persist 5 months post op?

Please share your experience. I would be most grateful to hear from you all.

Thank you.

My knee still has some swelling, it is much better than a month ago. Healing takes a year or more, even if you are not in pain, try elevating for the swelling. You could also try to find someone who does lymphatic drainage.

Once a surgeon has sliced through your knee, it will never look quite the same again. Sad fact of life!

Thank you ALL for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I feel much better now after having read your replies here. I was not concerned about the way my knees look but my daughter was worried if something might be wrong with my recovery since the knees look rather bulbous and not like a "normal" knee --- !!! I am happy to be in a lot less pain than pre-BTKR.

I wish everyone a wonderful weekend!!!!
