TKR 3 Months TKR, new PT

Hi, well I have been limping around for three weeks now with my fractured metatarsal with the "boot". It is hard to walk well with it. I am noticing my surgery knee is feeling stiff and I get like electric shocks in it. Also my left hip is sore. I try not to walk much, but I just did a 3 week overnights with 3 cats and I am tired. Should I be doing certain exercises or should I just stay immobile?

It sounds as if you've been doing plenty!
Don't stay completely immobile, but otherwise let your foot rest, so it can heal.

@pigylow Can you cut back on your pet sitting until your foot heals more? Resting because of your foot won’t hurt your knee, it’s still new enough to want to rest also.

I hope things settle down for you. Your knee was doing so well. It will again.

@pigylow, I know what you are going through. I stepped in a hole and broke my foot and ankle on the same leg as my tkr in May 2017. My new knee was just shy of being a year old. I was in a hard cast for 5 weeks and a walking boot for 3 more. My knee was very unhappy, especially the weeks I was non-weight baring. Then when finally I could put a little weight on it, the knee really hurt. The extra weight of the casts on that side added to my discomfort and make me walk crazy, too. Once I got out of the boot and slowly regained my 'normal' gait, my knee got better in time. Yours will, too. These new knees want to be used and when you get back to walking again, your knee will be much happier.

Which bone did you break in your foot? I broke the second and third ones. They and the ankle still give me some pain after doing different things. Your foot probably will, too. Your tendons and muscles were affected from your breaks and will take longer to heal than your bone, more than likely. Mine sure did.

If I can answer any questions please ask!

Thanks for the info. I feel like I am a whinner all the time, and I know it could always be a lot worse. So in convenient, takes forever to put boot on and the boot is starting to fall apart already. I see Doctor tomorrow and will know more. If this doesn't work I will need surgery, drat!

I hope you don’t need surgery on your foot!

What was the date you fractured your metatarsal?

I pray you won't have to have surgery and can get a new boot or even come out of it!
