TKR 2nd TKR May 22, 2018

Katlyw, cocktail hour is at 5 Central, all day Pacific! :martini: @Nick-UK , then 68 is the new 35, I do declare! (New math! lol) At least after all my new parts, I feel more like 35 than I had for a couple decades!:old:
Holy Crimenitely! Went to school to pick something up in my classroom, went and spent about an hour with a couple of my kiddos who are in summer school, went to lunch, walked around the mall one time. Doing my therapy homework and then I'm pretty sure I needed a nap. Hahahahaha!! I don't know if I can HANDLE a cocktail!!

Big day Katlyw! You DO need to rest, ice, and elevate after the workout you had today. I am sure your students were delighted to see you!

That's when my duo go back to school too. I'm hopeful I will be ready to open my shop back up then as well. My knee feels pretty good now I have some stiffness and some swelling to get under control but other than that I'm good to go.

That's my knee til! But my therapist showed me how to roll my thighs with a rolling pin What kind of shop do you have?

I'm a seamstress, I do alterations and custom sewing and machine embroidery.
My p.t. mentioned the rolling pin to me at my last appointment . I haven't tried it yet.

I did it tonight. But I can't do it as deep as he does! I sew for fun and knit and crochet, but haven't really wanted to do anything...

I started taking ibuprofen for the swelling. Can only take it once or twice a day since I screwed up my stomach with aleve several years ago. But it's helped some. I was taking Tylenol Arthritis for pain instead of the Norco so I could drive. The arthritis one takes the edge off but doesn't help with the swelling.

One of the best things about having this done in our 40's is hearing how young we are with everyone we encounter . The part I don't care for is the long pause where they are waiting for the reason we have bad knees this young. ...lol

Ooooooohhhhhhh, you're tooooooooo young to need a knee replacement! Yeah, tell that to my grinding bones!!

My therapist told me yesterday I'm really the advanced knee replacement patient. After I was rewarded for my hard work with extra weight for my kicks and more reps on sideways walking and the shuttle, which is like a leg press but with resistance bands instead of weights. I go see the rockstar (my surgeon) next Friday and if he still wants me to do therapy, we'll cut down to once a week for a couple more weeks. Walked around the mall yesterday afterwards. LOVE that it's getting so much stronger.

@Katlyw @Twinmama I enjoyed your exchange about your age. My first TKR was when I was 40 and now my second TKR I’m 50. Heard all the comments too, from doctors not wanting to do the surgery to “you’re way to young”. You’ll both be so glad you did it, I think. I was able to participate on all our family vacations while my kids were young. Lots of hiking in national parks. We did so much outdoorsy stuff that my kids are majoring in plant science and geology. Both say they never want to work indoors. If I hadn’t had a knee done when I was 40 we definitely would have lived a different lifestyle....a not as fun one. At the store yesterday, the clerk had a snarky comment about me being to young, and I’m 50 now! LOL. I told her it was just bad genes. Then I took it back and told her I didn’t stick my landing while parachuting to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Lol. I might work it on that story. Hope you both continue good recoveries. So worth it.

My P.T said the same. She has been upping the ante on my exercises too. I see my surgeon on the 11th and probably will be done with p.t st that point. I went shopping today and got a good walk in. It's great not feeling pain anymore. It's all stiffness and swelling which I can deal with. I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

That's awesome!! I kinda look forward to my therapy. Ha! My therapy amnesia is going away, I'm remembering how much work I put in the first time around. But now my therapist has so much more "fun" equipment than the first time around I need to walk more, it's been so hot so I've been going to the mall. And my stupid health club has an aversion to turning on the air. But all in all, I love that I'm not in constant arthritis pain every time I walk!
@nuttybrunette I've decided I'm going somewhere for my 50th birthday in 2 years. I have narrowed it down to either Alaska or Scotland/Ireland

We're going to pick cherries tomorrow in Michigan, about a 3 hour trip from my house. This will be my longest road trip since surgery, although I've run errands. Thankfully I'm not the only driver!! There could be ladders involved once we get to the orchard!! Stay tuned!!

Prepare to make stops along the way, so you can get out and walk around - your knee will get very stiff if you don't. At about your stage of recovery, I did a journey that usually takes 4 hours. With stops, that journey took us almost 6 hours. I wasn't driving at all and I managed to have my legs elevated for most of the journey.

Take your pain medications with you.
Be prepared to have a rest day the next day - I think you'll need it.
