TKR 17 days post -op aches and pains are expected

@robg welcome to BoneSmart! I can only speak for myself. I am an active, athletic, driven type and have always thought that if you’re motivated and you work hard you will improve faster. That was somewhat the case with other surgeries I have had. This one has been a whole different animal. I am a believer in pt, and at the beginning, I did what my pt and my surgeon told me to do. I worked hard, and when they started pushing me to do more and push through the pain, my progress stalled and then I had a big setback from doing too much in general. The more I pushed, the worse it got. The surgeon and pt were pressuring me to hit certain milestones and shaming me for not trying hard enough. I am not a wimp. I do endurance sports and climb mountains and run a farm. I can deal with things that are hard. But my knee was not having it. Maybe the aggressive approach works for some people, but I didn’t start seeing any consistent progress until I slowed it way down and stopped trying to force it.
Thankyou for your input!

Hi Hippen,
Happy Three Month Anniversary!
How are you doing since we last heard from you? Next time you stop by please leave an update, we'd like to read about your progress.
All the best to you!

I'm at three months LTKR and doing alright. My ROM is slow but every day my knee feels better. My range wasn't great prior to surgery, and I was way overdue for the replacement... because of this site and everyone's experiences, I know my ROM will get better with time!
I have overdone it at the gym a couple of times (on the weights), and now my other knee hurts so I am trying to slow my roll a bit until the pain on the right subsides. Crossing my fingers, it has arthritis as well.
When I am at the gym I bike 3-4 miles, get on the elliptical, exercise in the pool, and am keeping up with my PT exercises. #leggoals :)

Three mile bike riding is amazing for three months!

We've all spent time on the ODIC (Over Done It Club) bench during our recovery. Your decision to slow down a bit is wise.

It sounds like you are doing great. Just give it more time.

Sounds like you’re listening to your knee. It’s always going to tell you what you can do.

Hey there Hippin,
Another month behind us...Happy Four Month Anniversary!
Good to read you're not pushing your ROM, but allowing it to happen naturally.
I hope PT is still working well for you without any trips to the ODIC and with any luck your right knee is no longer bothering you. :fingersx: Take good care and stay in touch!
