Now, 6 months later, an update, and a question or two. The recovery wasn’t as quick and easy as both surgeons had agreed would be the case. I pronated now, and any pain was actually on the outside. At any rate I saw the second opinion surgeon for perspectve. First thing he said when he saw the images was “did he do the clean out?” I defended the radiologists clear margin and placement of a single screw. I think the second opinion surgeon would have “cleaned out” the bine spurs at the bottom of the tibia, but in general he thought everything was developing well. He agreed that an orthotic could make a significant difference and that they’d both “overpromised” on how simple this second surgery would be.
But the Mayo surgeon wouldn’t acknowledge my question on the bone spur and cleanout, even after I double checked to make sure he wouldn’t address the question. What do you do in a situation like this?
I was really getting into good shape until I turned directly into the sun at 5:30 am on single track, hit a vertical rut I couldn’t see, flopped simply down on my right side and broke the #7 floating rib, displaced. It took 6 weeks to recover! No CO high country.
And though even though no images had shown any worsening in my lower lumbar area the lower back started gradually getting worse, to the point where after an hour out with the dogs the lower back hurt too much to keep going. I’ve added a therapist, now at the Mayo who can be in close contact with the PMN&R doctor. Got to solve this. I’ve started back on the bikes - cautiously.
This seems like a way lower back problem but I had broken the T12 back in 2023 doing an awkward lift that shouldn't have happened. Discovered hemophilia had caused osteoporosis which 12 months of Evenity turned into osteopenia.
So here I am, maybe need to get into the back group.
