TKR 10 months post op

What a fickle tricky knee replacement recovery .
12 weeks post and going great guns but have found you can’t take anything for granted . Been back at work which is in health and I am up and down , standing and sitting in the shift , just noticed a tightness at back of knee and felt a ropey area causing me to limp a bit and some pain .
When I got home I sat and massaged the back of knee for about 10 min with some relief . Am guessing the frequent sitting standing with knee bends are not the best in recovering . Any idea or comments about why it could have become ropey and painful behind the knee .
Ps , just to share have become a grandma to twin boys pre term but all well after 5 years of IVF , so I need my knees .

Congrats, grandma! What a blessing! All that up and down you have been doing has upset your knee. You probably used that back muscles much more than they are used to, thus the pain. You can ice the back of your knee, too. I found that really helpful in relieving some of my pain.

Hello, its been about 7 months since last post and so much has happened. I am sure the weather interferes with the joint prosthesis, cold weather i have to massage knee to warm up befoire i move, humid weather makes joint stiff. Its all a daily learn with my new knee.
I try and cycle on stationary bike at leat 3 days of week to strengthen muscles in leg.
I really underestimated how much the surgery sucks the life out of you, my general stamina and energy levels were really zapped and its still taken me this long to build up to my pre TKR resiliance.
I have found that electra salt wraps actually reduce areas of swelling around the joint which builds up every now and then for what ever reason.
Has anyone done any long haul air travel post TKR, would like to know how it went , your experience etc.
Planning on long haul just on 12/52 post surgery with 18 hours in air then 3 hour lay over then a further 3/12. Gruelling i feel.

Hope all you March 2018 TKR are recovering or recovered and back and better pre surgery.
Happy New year 2019 for all you knee repalcements that happened in 2018.

@kampman1 you will notice that I have merged your two threads together as we prefer that members in recovery only have one thread.

This is for three reasons:
1. if you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts others have left you in the old threads
2. it often ends up that information is unnecessarily repeated
3. it's best if we can keep all your recovery story in one place so it's easily accessed if we need to advise you.

Please keep all your questions and updates on this thread.

Here's an article from our Library on Flying soon after TKR. It has some good hints for anyone post TKR.
