Thanks. The metatarsal pads are what he gave me. I guess I need to readjust the mound thing. I think I would rather have an orthotic though and be sure it's done right. I guess I'm getting old. My husband has always worn an orthotic. Now I know why! Yes, I don't want to mess up anything else having to do with walking, knees or legs, or feet. So if you get measured for an orthodic, do you still have to tape the mound? He gave me about 3 of them. Just not very comfortable.

I had an orthotic with the bump built right in. My podiatrist thourth that I had a Morton's neuroma, because I have numbness, tingling and shooting electrical pains on the bottome of both feet, The orthotic felt awful, hurt like heck. I finally went to a neurologist and he diagnosed me with peripheral neuropathy, with is a disorder of the small nerve fibers that causes those symptoms. He put me on trials of all different meds until we found something that lessened the pain and didn't make me feel too cookoo. LOL, just cookoo enough!

OH really? What causes that bunny? Don't think I can handle anymore bodily issues. :shk:

Hi Betsy, I think if my scars had not hyper-pigmented or keloided a little bit, they may have looked a little better? Not sure how they will end up. But that's just a something I had no control over. What's funny is the place where the staple was accidentally left in(Home nurse), the vertical scar is almost not here, although it did leave a staple scar horizontally..just barely.

Makes me wonder if they should keep them in for maybe a half a week more? The staple ended up having to be dug out a week or so later.

I know what you mean about the scars. The bottom end of it is very pale and almost blending in with the skin. The rest of it looks like a big purple snake!

Morton's neuroma

[Bonesmart.org] 10-11 weeks post-op

Treatment:
~ initial treatment consists of padding and taping to disperse weight away from the neuroma which is usually sufficient
~ injection of local anaesthetic
and a corticosteroid to relieve pain and reduce inflammation
~ use of sclerosing injections into the area of the neuroma area to help harden (sclerose) the nerve and relieve the pain
~ surgery is often necessary for most cases.

Two surgical procedures are employed:
~ the dorsal approach which involves making an incision on the top of the foot. This approach permits the patient to walk soon after surgery because the stitches are not on the weight-bearing side of the foot.
~ the plantar approach where the incision is made on the sole of the foot. The patient must use crutches for about 3 weeks and the scar that forms can make walking uncomfortable. The advantage of the plantar approach is that the neuroma can be reached easily and resected without cutting any structures.

Glad to hear your check-up went well and your knees look great!!!

Thanks Jo. Now I know why my foot kept going numb when I used to work for Hallmark. Now, I don't know what to do. Ugh. For some reason it has been annoying the last couple of days...maybe the rain? I wish I had known about it before surgery and I would have had them shoot the thing with the steroids when I was under. I'm afraid I am not up to doing much about the situation right now.

:hissy:

It'll keep, honey. But at least you know the specs!

Hi cotton..I thought I had a neuroma tumor on the bottom of my foot once so I mentioned it to my friends I played tennis with and they told me to roll my foot on top of a tennis ball or soup can as hard as I could anytime I was just sitting around. Then have husband massage pulling towards toes. Then I would put my foot on top of ice pack. I did this for awhile and it went away.

Then I had a heel spur and I did the same thing, plus I bought one of those booties that pulls your toes in toward your knee anytime I was just sitting around and it also went away...no surgery. I also remind myself constantly to walk heel, toe, heel, toe and that helps..Give it a try you never know...
