MUA 1 year this month on TKR

Hello everyone! How is everyone doing this week so far? Cold and windy here in Tennessee. My left knee is feeling it too. Went grocery shopping for the first time in the store Monday and done some bending and hard walking with the shopping cart. I paid for it yesterday. Swollen and stiff like a rock, got on bike today and could barely roll over a turn. My knee is angry and it is telling me to let off a while. Today makes 9 wks., since surgery. I bet my ROM today is 100,but I quit worrying because I will heal in time..... Hope everyone has a great week...God Bless to all :)
Just amazing how our knee can be doing ok and them “wham”! A little too much activity and then we pay for it. Its a long journey

I assume the swelling will be with us for a long time. Mine is some better now at 9 wks., but if I over do it with ADL it will swell up. Right now my quad and hamstring muscle is aching like crazy

Have you tried wrapping your knee with an ace bandage or compression sleeve? You don't wrap it tightly....just enough to give some support. That's been helping me with swelling.
OS doesn't want me to use those. I think I reached a milestone this morning at 9 wks. Got up this morn and knee looked wonderful, almost like a normal knees I rode the bike for 10 minutes, took my time and it felt great. I did all this after coffee...lol.... Anyway my husband measured me and I was at 101....woo-hoo...I passed 95. My OS told me and my husband if I reached 100 or 105 he would release me next time because I am doing ADL very well. I started driving 3 wks ago. I am still on the cane due to the other knee being unstable...bone on bone too, but I am waiting later on to get it done. I sure don't want 2 knees recovering at once. I do have a question though, does anyone here have trouble with their hamstring at times, like a dull ache? Bugs me to death at times..... Have a blessed weekend u'all....... We spring forward to Saturday night :loveshwr: :loveshwr::flwrysmile:

took it easy today with my knee and rode my bike 2 times. 10 minutes each time. raised the tension up a little and didn't bother me none. My husband measured me and I reached 105. I cried my eyes out,I was so happy to break over 100. Will be 10 wks., this coming week but have a long ways to go with my gait. I dread the other surgery on the other knee later this fall. It is hard to walk with a straight leg and the other bow legged(bone on bone too). I see my OS in 2 weeks..... Everyone have a blessed weekend...hugs!

You have learned a lot with this knee and if you chose a gentle rehab next time, I would think it will go much better.

Congratulations! :loveshwr:

Remember your latest surgery was February 21, so you are only less than 3 weeks out. You are doing great for that short of a time! Listening to your knee and obeying it is helping you heal so much better than trying to force it to do something it isn't ready to do! You go, girl, and have a blessed weekend, also!

sistersinhim...... I just ordered a massage gun though amazon. I have heard they are good for deep muscle tissue. I thought it might be good for my quad and hamstring aches... what do you think?

I think it is too soon after your MUA to use a massage gun, I think it will be too rough. Your knee/leg does not need any more interference right now. It needs some “quiet time“ to just “be” so it can heal.

Riding your bike is good, but set it back to zero resistance. And no more than 10 minutes, once or twice a day, and maybe not even every day right now. When you increase anything, give it a week or so before you increase it again, and only if the previous increase did not cause extra pain and swelling. If you increase too quickly, you could cause a dreaded set back.

Try very hard to be patient, healing truly does take a long time. But also remember, this recovery is temporary. Give your knee the time it needs to heal and then you’ll be back to doing the things you love. If you rush things, you’ll have set backs, which will lengthen your recovery.

I agree that it's way too early to be using any type of massage gun or any pressure on your baby knee. Those inside tissues need to heal more.

Gentle movements are the key!

Good Morning from a cold and frosty Tennessee.... today makes 10 wks for my TKR. It has been a long journey so far, but I can tell the further I go I can see improvements. They might be small but I cherish each one that I get. This week I am going to work some more on my ROM. I am at 105 now. I over worked it Monday and had to rest it yesterday. It hurt and swelled too much. I do have a question though for you all. on the right side of the knee or incision I have this sore and achey area. I have had it from day one. It is like near the area of the side of the knee cap. Had sharp pains from it yesterday at times.I assumed it was caused where I over did it the day before. I see my OS in 2 weeks and I am going to show him where it aches and have these dull pains in it. I hope in the next 12 weeks I will have better ROM. Thank you all for helping me get though this....hopefully the light will come though in the next weeks......hugs to all

Happy Ten Weeks to you, VolLady! It is wonderful to realize the progress you've made over time. In taking a slow easy approach you are getting there. Maybe you should rest or give it more than one day when you feel you overdid it? Something to consider. Pain and discomfort is not unusual at this early date and I am sure you'll receive that reassurance from your surgeon in two weeks. Ice the area daily and see if it brings you relief. Your ROM will increase over the next three months as long as you stay the course without overdoing it.
Best Wishes for a good appointment in two weeks and a lovely rest of the week. You're doing great!
