    Worried about stairs...

@Jasminethecat ... Sounds like I'm a little late to the party to chime in, but just wanted to let you know that I also live in a "multi-level" house that I love but didn't seem so practical for recuperating. BUT, the PT's also had me doing the stairwell before I left the hospital and I managed...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

@Reebok... I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your surgery. From the time it all started, till I went through various treatment options (but no surgery) to the time of the actual surgery was about 6 years. May not seem like a long time, but when you're in so much pain and life is...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

Wow!!! I'm now 6 months post-op on the second knee and 16 months post-op on the first knee. Life is so much better than it was pre-surgery. For anyone contemplating this life-altering surgery, please know that if you give it time, there really is a pot of gold waiting at the end of the...

    Nervousness setting in..TLK Dec.18 2013 after TRK 9/3/13

@Kathysbeautybiz ... Good to hear from you! We passed the six-month mark last week, which is really hard to believe! I hope that you're doing well and continuing to improve. I'd say that overall, life is much MUCH better than before the surgery. I still have some swelling and heat in my...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

Not so fast... In my first "Lessons Learned" posting way back when, I mentioned that it's not a good idea to return to work too early (many others have echoed that sentiment in their postings, too), so for my second knee I took 12 weeks off. I thought I was cruising and all was well with my...

    Secondary effects of TKR?

"Special Needs" yoga has been helping me to get my body back in alignment. I don't think my problems are as severe as what you've described but I was definitely out of whack. And the yoga is slowly but surely helping. I do feel tired and somewhat sore after class, but it's a good sore...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

:puppysmooze: Finding joy in the little things... I'm crazy/happy to report that progress continues and that life is returning to normal. I'm continuing the yoga class (it's doing wonders for me both mentally and physically); walking more (same results as yoga) and am returning to tasks I...

    Six Month Anniversary!

Isn't it absolutely great to NOT have to think about your knees every time you try to take a step? I feel like I've found my true self again!

Total Newbie. Where do I start?

PS: You'll learn how to do steps before you leave the hospital. I live in a quad-level (steps everywhere!) and I did fine but was limited to one trip up and one trip down for the first week or so. Now I'm up and down those steps several times a day like nobody's business! :-)

Total Newbie. Where do I start?

Welcome to the forum, @r2u! You'll probably get more feedback than you know what to do with, so I'll keep my reply short. I have a few years in age on you, but suffered through an ever-decreasing quality of life for long enough that I decided to "go for it" and had one knee done in February...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

It's been awhile. Time flies when you're having fun. Okay, that's a lie. Due to the horrible weather in the midwest this winter, I was housebound for far too long. The upside of that is that it forced me to take things easy and FULLY RECOVER. I'm now 14 months post-op on my first knee and 4...

    Nervousness setting in..TLK Dec.18 2013 after TRK 9/3/13

@Kathysbeautybiz... This Friday will mark our 4-month anniversaries for our second knees. I hope that your recovery is going well and you're regaining your freedom and your "old life" back. I'm happy to report that things are going very well. I'm increasing the distance that I can walk, I...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

In the battle between brain fuzz and knee pain, the need for relief from knee pain prevails, so... I'm back on an around the clock medication regimen that started last night although I asked to be stepped down from oxycodone which I hated. I'm trying Norco (5 mg hydrocodone/325 mg acetaminophen)...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

Hi Josephine... Your points are well taken. I'm doing the knee comparison shuffle even though I know I shouldn't be. I was off all my Rx meds by this point after the first knee and I want it to be the same this time so I've decided to deal with a little more pain so that I can get rid of this...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

@pdx ... isn't it interesting that we acknowledged our one month milestones but are kind of forgetting about our other knees? Happy one year plus one month birthday to your left knee! My left knee will be a year old in three weeks. Hard to believe!!

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

A day makes a difference... I did get out to the park yesterday for a short walk. I used my walker because I still don't feel too steady standing on the new knee. It was great to get out; the dogs had a great time and my husband and I felt better being in a slightly different environment...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

It's meltdown day. I'm four weeks post op and by all accounts am doing well. I've been getting away from the prescription meds, and am still able to increase my flex and extension. I've gotten out a few times for lunch. And yet, the tears are flowing today like the Hoover Dam (my US buddies will...

    Done and Done: Lessons Learned

Hi @1ELISEA... Thanks for asking! Although the temperatures have risen a bit, we got a bunch of rain, which has created a nice icy skating rink on top of the snow. So... I did venture out on Thursday (missed the hubby's birthday by a few days) for lunch, which was nice. And then had to go...

TKR I am finally on the other side

We had our surgery on the same day. My Rom was just past 90 at my appt on Monday 12/30. My OS was very pleased and said that I would continue to make progress. I think it's a little early to threaten with MUA.

TKR My Journey as of 12/16/13 - Over 1 Year and Still Trying

That makes two of us for the Kleenex stock! Except that I started cheaping out and now I buy the Target brand!! I apologize if I sounded harsh, I really didn't mean to. What I learned the last time (and it's really helping me this time) was that if I did overdo it and felt lousy on one day that...
