April 21..... 20 months post operation
My new knee continues to surprise me, gets stronger all the time, but as I've read from so many others....my 'good' knee that coped with the strain of the bad knee for some 20 years is now grumbling like mad....along with its associate my left hip...
Almost a year since my TKR .... can't believe what a different year this is!
I thought I'd just check in with an update, for anyone in the first 3-6 months....there really is light at the end of the tunnel
Lost my dad earlier this year and there have been so many tough days, but really really...
Strange days....
Currently working from home, trying to keep a team together and also dealing with my very poorly dad. Visiting hospital much reduced at the moment, but the palliative ward is much more flexible.
I've read a few posts on here and see that our whole world is in the same daze, so...
19 weeks in and went shopping for shoes on Saturday
Discovered that whilst I managed to make it (slowly) round 5 shoe shops....the constant sitting standing trying on was not great....and my new knee has apparently not cured my loathing of shoe shopping!!!
My first big work function on...
Cant believe I'm at 15 1/2 weeks!! Started occasionally climbing stairs foot over foot....and this week went downstairs foot over foot
Definitely improving each week....but....still feels like I have a wooden knee
Some days I think wow ...amazing
Other days I think....WILL THIS FEELING EVER...
12 1/2 weeks
Getting tired of being asked..so when will you be back to normal?
My phased return at work is basically full time....I've managed a few days working from home in the afternoon, but people know I'm back, and are expecting me to be all bouncy and refreshed....guess what guys...I'VE...
@marieltha .... success is a relative term in this instance lol... :rotfl:
Thankfully my pilates teacher is off on hols for 2 weeks (she rarely goes on holiday! So timing is actually perfect)
11 weeks post op
Keep pushing things, pretending its normal....but it's so tight and stiff and...
One of my best friends is under 5'.... she cant see in my bathroom mirror .....
Anyway....10.5 weeks into recovery....and I went back to pilates tonight.
Getting down to mat wasnt pretty, getting up again was hilarious! But I did it, and I did a lot of the moves, took it really easy, but it...
@ApricotPie I had similar problems in hospital....my feet were continually off the end of the bed....then...on day 4...just before I was 'released ', a young nurse came in and said, why has noone extended this bed...:rotfl::elevate:
She gave me another 6 inches of comfort....:sigh:
@Celle I totally agree particularly about the leg extension machine. ..I wont be doing them again...ever!!!
What was even worse is that I'm tall... 6'1".... and the physio was about 5'5" .... so she didn't adjust the leg length properly and the thing was rolling up onto my shins...even after...
Was just saying today....everything I did used to be centred on my knee.... do a bit, have a rest, do a bit more...sit down...and this was before my operation!!
Now...I'm just doing stuff...slowly.....and carefully.....but my issue is now tightness and swelling and I KNOW that will eventually...
That was my final physio tonight.....
Some good exercises, stepping down with the unoperated leg to help with normal stairs
Stepping up on operated leg
Balancing on operated leg
But also leg extension machine and squats...the things I really don't like!!
My ROM measured at 110/0 which I'm...
After working from home yesterday...knee rested up , I was back into the office today for around 3.5 hours.
I tried to move every 30 mins....I used 2 of those single use icepacks (they are pretty useless I find....once this box of 20 is gone I wont bother with any more)
Came home, elevated...
Thanks @Celle that could be it....I had driven for 40 minutes and made it to my desk
As it was my first day back I had a procession of wellwishers for about hour and half.... but the pain had gone this morning ..until I got up and walked about getting dressed, where it made me hop!!!
Could just...
