So now at Week 31 (Month 7), all seemed to be progressing well, walking up to 2hrs at a time (Hamberg Christmas Market) and making sure I rested if I made it to ODIC. Then Wham... 3 days ago I got hamstring tendonitis on my non operated leg, and felt like I was back at square one with RICE on...
WEEK 18-19 This was an ODIC 10 days but I had a great time on my cruise. My first long day was in Pompeii, where I was on my feet from 9am to 4pm with a few brief seated periods (on my walkstool - my best buy last year where a 65cm high stool can be fitted into a daypack as it has telescopic...
@LindaO RAD Dawes Hill is currently being turned into an enormous housing estate. You look like you have had some real troubles with your right knee. So glad second time round has been a lot easier than 1st time.
So to update my recovery over the last couple of months. Week 9 and 10 quite similar, with physio starting me on the exercise bike as I could do full rotation of pedals, no formal exercises as she knew I wouldn't do any but just seeing what my baby knee could do. Also swimming a couple of times...
@Benay I found my stayed cold for about an hr to 1.5hrs if half filled with ice and no extra water. I also think it depends on how hot your knee normally gets, remember I used mine pre 2nd op. After 1st op I found the gel packs I used stopped feeling cold after 20mins and were body temp warm...
@RAD and @Benay that looks exactly like the one I bought. Remember most bars in Provence have ice if you ask nicely. I also used an elastic velcro strap with mine when I wanted hands free.
@RAD before my op back in March I used a traditional ice bag/pack when I went to Portugal on plane. Starbucks at airport gave me ice to fill bag on way out, it lasted nearly 1 1/2 hrs or most of flight. On way back they gave me ice on the flight. Coz it was empty going through security no...
@katpkatp Last year I had a partial knee replacement. Recovery seemed good in so far as ROM but I was in constant pain. PT just kept on with balance, strengthening quads and even a trampoline!!! saying things would get better.... I trusted them but gave up physio after 7 months, still icing...
Its all about timing I think rather than the pool. I got real sensitive about 3 weeks post-op and used GLAD Wrap over area for about a week or so when sensitivity went down. Zingers still happened until weeks 6/7 but less frequently as time went on. I now only get them once or twice a week...
I used a tens machine weeks 5&6 and it helped especially in the evenings. Dont use it much now and reducing pain meds (Paracetamol) to 3x1000mg a day instead of 4 (have gone down to morning and night a couple of times when I forgot mid afternoon dose).
@Lucy1 just think when knee sweelling goes down how your legs will feel straight. My ankles can touch now, and when walking outside I have to really think about heal/toe and straight leg almost like a march to try and get my gait back to normal rather than a waddle. :walking:
