THR Two Year Anterior THR Anniversary

:martini: Today is my two year Anterior THR Anniversary. I just wanted to post an update for those considering surgery or in the early days of recovery to let everyone know that life is good after THR. I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. I had a very easy surgery, no...

    Very Confused and Terrified

Hi Summerwoman, I'm not on here too much anymore but I saw your post which was similar to mine. My story was much the same as yours. I was still very active, could go up and down steep staircases at work, hike, etc better than people half my age and I did not take any medication. For me the...

THR George AA1PD post op thread

Re: Riding horses how many months to wait. I forgot to add that the 3 month recommendation is for the posterior approach although I know some riders who were back to riding their horses 6 to 8 weeks post op. I had the anterior approach which generally allows an earlier return to most activities.

THR George AA1PD post op thread

Re: Riding horses how many months to wait. I was allowed to resume ring riding at 3 weeks and trail riding at 4 weeks post op. The instructions from my OS were to not fall off! Obviously I was very cautious and only rode at a walk for the first few weeks until I regained my confidence and...

THR Post Op Risk due to Hospital Exposure?

Is it safe to have acupuncture after THR Hi all. I am nine months post op and the hip has been terrific. No pain, no problems. Unfortunately, I strained my shoulder muscle by overdoing it with horse chores, house and property maintenance, heavy lifting, moving furniture, etc. That wouldn't...

    Comparing hospitals and surgeons

I always check these sites when researching a Dr. regardless of specialty. Of particular interest are the Dr's education, reputation and history of malpractice. Good knowledge to have when considering a new Dr.

Anterior THR Approach WARNING: graphic video

Hi Shawnna, I do not know if there is any kind of limit. It's probably the preference of the surgeon tailored to the patient's need. My surgeon used the uncemented Biomet Vision titanium with poly cup. Hope that helps. Jenny

Anterior THR Approach WARNING: graphic video

That's the best video I've seen. Thanks for sharing it. Totally agree that one must weigh all the factors, surgeon, hospital and method. I did my research, interviewed several doctors and picked the one that was the best for me. After all things are considered and the surgeon, cost and...

    Pre-surgery jitters

Hi Horsey girl, Just lending support as a fellow equestrian. My condition was very similar to yours. Excruciating pain when riding and sleeping but no problems with hiking, walking, going up and down stairs, etc. Imagine my shock when the OS said I needed a hip replacement. I had an active...

    Revision THR Nanamac's story - Part 2

Re: This is my story Janet. I hope you find relief soon. Please check out The Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. They are the #1 ranked hospital for orthopedic procedures in the USA. The surgeons are world class. Perhaps one of the surgeons has an office close to MA that you could go to...

    Revision THR Nanamac's story - Part 2

Re: This is my story Janet, I'm not a medical profesional but here's a thought. Have you been tested for prednisone induced diabetes? It is supposed to go away after the med is stopped but can often remain in the system. My mother developed this as soon as she started prednisone and has...
