I have a ceramic head and plastic cup. I didn't really have a say in the implant. My doctor chose what he thought was best for me and what he has the most experience with. No issues at all.
I know it's easy to say, but truly... It's not gonna be nearly as bad as you're thinking. I have not had back surgery but I do have scoliosis from arthritis. With the newer implants dislocation isn't the big issue it used to be. Your hip is gonna tell you when you move in a way it doesn't...
That is totally normal. I couldn't abduct my leg at all for a week or more after surgery. It will come back. I started with little movements like taking 6" steps to the side. Gradually making my steps bigger as that muscle woke up.
Same with the swelling - completely normal. My first...
I also have knee issues but had lateral surgery. I told him I was worried about knee pain slowing down recovery of my hip and he suggested a cortisone shot in my knee while I was still under sedation. Worked like a charm. Took the edge of my knee pain enough to recover from the hip surgery.
Hi Layla thanks for checking in. I'm doing really well. I have regained about 75% function in the abductors, just like the Dr said. I'm walking w one crutch and transitioning to walking short distances in the home unassisted. I mentioned to him that i still get pain in the first op leg, but...
I think a good rule of thumb is.. If it hurts, don't do it.
I showered on day 3 with a shower chair and rode in the car on day 5. I was going stir crazy and needed to get out.
Trust me - you will realize your limitations pretty fast. Ask your surgeon and don't worry about what the Pt says
I have both and would vote walker. It's smoother, distributes your weight better. There are some situations where I prefer crutches - such as manuvering around in a small bathroom - but overall I found the walker more useful.
I would suggest investing in a walker tray. That way you can carry your food from the prep area to the table. I got around fine on my own but one of my biggest obstacles was.. "ok how do I carry the bowl from the microwave to the table while holding onto the walker"
Also they make long...
I'm in Boston and have never experienced this. As a matter of fact, I got less PT than my first hip replacement less than a year ago. Back in 2018 they sent a visiting nurse twice and 10 home PT sessions. This time they said they don't do that anymore and that if the OS determines at my 2...
I had general with my first hip, spinal for 2ND and much prefer the spinal. (I didn't have a nerve block). Spinal doesn't have as many side effects (nausea, light headedness, etc). You'll still be asleep for the whole procedure but just feel so much better when you wake up!
I had the same exact thing. All those muscles get retracted and moved around in there. It will get better - it just is going to take some time. I probably had the golf ball pain till the 3-4 month mark.
Just checking in on hip #2. I am 5 days post op and things are going pretty well. I expected this surgery to be similar to the first one. But they feel totally different.
My first hip had a lot of pain and pressure in the stem and I had some complications with hip flexor dysfunction. I'm not...
