The lower quad at-the-knee pain sounds very familiar to me from just about that point in my recovery. Here's what worked for me, and it sounds like it worked for @hermitstyle also.
I had a PT who specialized in pressure massage (not all the PTs at my place had that skill; I just lucked out)...
It is making me depressed about the fact that (or, I perceive that) so many TKR patients are being led to expect that the recovery will be much quicker and easier than it actually is. I had a wakeup call when after hearing from the surgeon's PA that some patients are mowing the lawn at two...
My one and only suggestion is to keep your meds on you all the time, not where somebody can get at them. Sounds like you are surrounded by untrustworthy people so make it hard for them.
Do you have a caseworker, i.e. a social worker? If you are getting food stamps you probably do. Perhaps...
[Five month update] Everything's still great. Still a little muscle pain going up and down stairs but compared to before BTKR it's a "good" pain, even a great pain, reminding me of how bad the bone pain used to be. Basically I'm back to my old activity levels of twelve years ago.
Feeling is...
Yes, I sure learned that. What I did instead of increasing the gap was to lessen the dose. Probably amounts to the same thing. I can tell you for sure that suddenly going 18 hours with nothing is not a good idea!
One thing I would like to see more of on BoneSmart is people's descriptions of...
I was on hydrocodone 10-325 for over three months. It made a huge difference in my recovery and it did not affect my mental state or my ability to work. Getting off the drug however was not fun (physical dependence is a real thing) but in the end it turned out to be just another part of the...
I'm another vote for having both done at the same time. Reasons: 1) it's not twice as painful. It's the same amount of pain in two places. Big difference. 2) It's one 2-3 month recovery chunk of your life instead of 4-6 months (everybody, substitute your own version of turn-the-corner...
Also, a quick update. I have trained myself to sleep on my back. I don't think I have slept on my back since I was a baby --- I'm a longtime side sleeper. But sleeping on the back is helping my sleep tremendously now that I have kicked the pain killers (sleeping in any position was easy with...
I can't overstate the importance of getting the drugs right, for me in the first three-four days. I really hope they get you on the right regimen fast. It makes all the difference. The right drugs are out there. Continue to be assertive about your pain level.
Pasting this from another response I did elsewhere, for purposes of keeping a true diary.
I am getting more and more jazzed about rejoining a gym or possibly digging out my exercise machine that is stored in the detached building we have. The leg press machine at the PT was really enjoyable for...
I am getting more and more jazzed about rejoining a gym or possibly digging out my exercise machine that is stored in the detached building we have. The leg press machine at the PT was really enjoyable for some strange reason and I'm motivated. And, being at the age I am, I no longer care...
