    TKR MRI Anyone?

Has anyone had an MRI post replacement? I've always thought they were a no-no after TKR. I need to get a cardiac MRI. Nothing serious going on. No symptoms. My mom had a heart attack at a young age so I see one twice a year. Anyway, he prescribed one and I'm uneasy about it. At the place...

OK Now I am Scared, Not Worried, But Scared

5 1/2 months out I can barely remember back. Life is good. :mart: I still take a couple of Ultram now and then, but I needed them before surgery too for the rest of my arthritic body. My knee hurts sometimes, but at its worst it feels like a bruise. Eveyone comments on how much better I walk...

    Vicodin or Darvocet

I really don't get some doctors. I was at my OS surgeon's this week and told him I wanted something for occasional pain as manifested by swelling. He was ready to write a new script for Percosets if I needed them. I said, no more narcotics, so we went for Tramadol. I had been on Percosets...

    Back to Work!

I had a really great first week, but I babyed it. Drove to work and avoided public transit. Yesterday I walked a lot and spent time standing waiting for the bus. Woke up swollen and stiff. So I'm home RICE-ing today. Tomorrow's another day.

    Need Guidence & Help

Maxine, Are you still on blood thinners (Coumadin,Warfin or Lovenox (pardon my spelling))? If so when you come off you might be able to take NSAIDs again. Once I got the ok to go back on Celebrex, the swelling went down almost overnight. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

    Worries

Carol, I'm only 53 too. ( I so love to say and hear that! ) I had a Smith and Nephew Genesis II put in around 12 weeks ago. There are advertisements here in the US stating they have a 30 year lifetime. I'm very happy I finally did it and am recovering very well. I'll be having the...

    Back to Work!

I went back to work this week 12 weeks after my TKR. I waited 12 weeks because a) I could and b) working part time was not an option. I'm tired but fine. Our corporate nurse offered ice packs, but haven't needed them yet. I have a desk job. The one major change I made to my previous routine...

    Family and friends

Just goes to show how different everyone is. I had a party the day after my surgery in my hospital room. Some friends brought food and wine. Previous surgeries I did the same as Jamie, but this time I wanted to christen the new knee. :ch-w: I had my own drugs so I didn't join them.

    Probable TKR failure

I was talking to a lady at PT last week. She had both knees done 8 years ago. They thought she needed a bilateral revision a few months ago. They opened up both knees, but it turned out she had pseudo-gout. They did a little clean up while they were in ther but she didn't need a revision...

    Hospital bag

I brought 6 pairs of gym shorts and 6 loose tshirts. Make sure you have loose pants to go home in, My roommate wore jeans to the hospital. No one could bring her in loose clothes so she had to leave the hospital in the gown.

    Recovery in progress

Barb, Have you tried TENS? Therapeutic Electrical Nerve Stimulation (I think) I get it at the PT place I go to and it helps a lot. It really helps reduce the swelling before or after a session. And you can't take Celebrex right? That's a shame because reducing the swelling helps a lot...

    Nausea with pain killers

Can you meet with your anesthesiologist ahead of time and discuss this? If meds bother your stomach will they let you take injections for pain at home? Never heard of it being done but it's worth asking. I give myself injections of Enbrel twice a week for my RA. Also ask about getting a...

    trying to decide

In the US Smith and Nephew has started TV commercials. The interesting point is that they're saying that they have published studies of their knees lasting 30 years. I'm sure other major brands will jump in and start spouting their statistics as well. Will be fun to watch. Stryker has been...

Ready to Give in I think!!!

OH. I know what you mean. My new knee is so nice and straight and strong I considered not waiting till next spring. It will do more than Lefty and has much better ROM. When I wake up with a sore knee it's never Rodknee the new kid. Work is definitely in the way. I need to win the...

Running After Knee Replacement, Part 2

As recommended by Kelly (aka Skigirl), find a pool and try running in water first. I haven't run in 20 years, but tried it yesterday and it was great! Must be a great way to get back in the swing of things. Thanks Kelly!:jump:

    My odd kneecaps

I definitely have a man's knee. The Smith & Nephew genesis has a gender specific version (women's) and a regular. The Women's version is just sizes 1-4 of the regular one. Sizes 5-9 are usually men's. I got a size 6. :hehe:
