@caredFL Always so good to read your updates! Thank you for posting. You, flacie1 and I are all at/around the 5 week post-op mark. Really, we are all sharing a "similar" type of recovery, which gives me great comfort!
I tell myself always, "This is not a race, or a competition with PT...grrrrrrr...or anyone else...if I'm recovering slowly, or not as quickly as others, well that's okay." But being human and as you've expressed, our little doubts creep in. I finally had a word with my PT on Wednesday (a man I truly like & respect) and once again reiterated, "I do not wish to discuss numbers and I do not believe for one moment a MUA is in my near future...no way." I'm sure Dave means well and he keeps pushing me to AVOID future flexion/pain problems. However, I keep telling ALL the PT staff, "All I really need to do is be able to lift myself off the toilet and wipe myself...bathing on my little tub bench is a real plus...walking well would be great...I'm not training for a Triathlon, nor do I ever care to...I'll feel 'goal accomplished' if I can amble about with a limited amount of pain."
I must confess I shake my head and my stomach churns a bit when I see folks out here who are doing Pilates, completing yoga, hauling wood, climbing step-ladders, running 5 hours of errands, hosting holidays, traveling on planes, going on cruises, etc...and they are a few weeks further out post-op than me. I admire these folks and I wish them well. But frankly, I am still struggling with a number of the things you've mentioned (edema, swelling, painful flexion, insomnia).
But also, similar to you I DO see the little victories like XS Tylenol only every 8 hours during the day, Tramadol & oxycodone once pre-sleep, a bit less icing, a bit more ambulation with a cane, more completion of chores & stuff around the house, a few more brief journeys away from home...little victories.
Thanks again for posting. Keep up the great work!
