Total hip replacement April 3

I think you will be amazed how THR gives your happy time in life back. I am so proud of you for wanting too continue agility training. It’s so much fun and rewarding.Take it slow and remember to adjust for movement being absolutely mindful with changing movements in some cases to maintain that new hip.
Boarders love running they are so smart they get bored without exercise and are so easy to train.i am having trouble down loading file ,files to big. I have cropped it several times for a smaller file and sorry can’t send any pic. She is black and white short hair short tail.

Thanks HippieLife!!! I had an agility class today and my poor pup... she was waiting for me to catch up with her... missed a few obstacles due to my inability to run... BUT I’m keeping a positive attitude and looking forward to being able to put my dog through her paces in a few months ( weeks??). Her name is Magnolia.

:hi:

Let's stick with MONTHS.
Need to get this recovery right so you can get on with life without issues.:)
Magnolia is a cutie!

Happy Wednesday to you!
You may, or may not, ditch the walker right away. I'm sure you won't have it for too long.
We do often read that recovery from THR is easier than recovery from TKR, so I hope you find that to be the case. Hopefully the fact that you're seven years older doesn't affect this recovery much either. It seems you're in good health physically so I'm guessing you'll have a decent recovery. We'll be rooting for you. :yay:
Have a great day!
@beachlily

Google = :good-bad: Never know what frame of mind it will put you in, lol.
I'd suggest you TRY to avoid it. I know...it's difficult!

Thanks again. Any opinions on compression socks for after I’m done with the calf pumps OS is giving me for 2 weeks???? Do some people just give themselves a daily shot instead of calf pumps? Thanks for your thoughts. Appreciated.

Hi @beachlily .... I just finished my 14 days with the calf pumps. I did not have to wear the compression socks (everyone always complains so much about those, so I was happy). I am also taking .81 mg of aspirin 2x daily for 28 days. The calf pumps are not that bad and I just got used to having them on and didn't even notice it after awhile. I also tried to remember to do the ankle pumps whenever I was sitting or lying down. I was happy not to have to be on any blood thinners or injections.

I have a DVT history x 2 and a PE history x 1 but have learned I will only be on blood thinners, no socks! :yes!:

I would await hearing of your surgeon's protocol.

Lucky you, having early surgery!! I am scheduled to be there for prep between 1 and 4 day of. Hoping I get an earlier time! :fingersx::fingersx:

Many surgeons are not demanding TEDs these days. If you are mobile and walking about in your home regularly they are probably not needed. Do you know if you will be taking any aspirin post op?

Yes 81 mg aspirin. The calf pumps just seem too confining- I’d rather do injections and I HATE needles. I have a call into OS. Thanks.

Good luck @beachlily Hope your OS can give you a plan that you are comfortable with!

So the OS doesn’t seem to be on same page as the hospital. When I went for pre op- daily injections or calf pumps were the only way they mentioned to deal with DVT. Dr. Says NO to both of those- just take aspirin and wear compression socks. I’m relieved but boy that’s confusing. Glad I called.

Hmmm, were we in the same class? Just kidding but that is exactly what we were told in pre op class, and what the OS said. Except no Teds either. I dunno.

I can't tell you how many times I have seen this same experience reported here. Happened to me as well. It's always best to check with your surgeon's office but in many cases it's hard to reach someone to confirm. Glad you got this sorted!

Just had THR & was advised no TEDS once you come out of hospital but because I had DVT/PE previously they insisted TEDS, foot pumps whilst I’ve been in & heparin injections after discharge for 4 weeks... so I think it’s a moveable feast... good luck at Sarah Bee... not long now! take care.

So today was a really roller coaster day. I have had pain in throat and head several days-tongue was a bit numb so finally went to ENT who thought I had a TIA( mini stroke!!). Yikes. Off to MRI and thank goodness it was not-I was more upset that I would have to cancel hip surgery than I was about possible TIA! But it’s still a GO and as for my head/throat pain... probably sinus or neuralgia. Whew! Hip is getting replaced in one week. How’s everyone doing???
