Knee Infection* The girl with the two fake knees

Thanks for your update, glad to hear that even tho this news is disappointing, your spirit is good and your ready to face this challenge head on.
I am hoping that you get all your answers very quickly as the sooner they know, the sooner treatment can get started that is geared to your issues.
I also developed a odd odor to mine, ( I could even smell the smell somewhat when I even had it covered, I found it embarrassing as I was back to work at that point, that is what sent me searching out more medical help as I didn't consider that a normal thing, as I had went 8 wks, without any odor even tho my incision hadn't closed either, and did do as yours is grew in size over time.
But the medical world is amazing at what they can do.
Hoping that within the next day, you can be started on the road to recovery that will close up your incision.

Jen, I hope things start to change soon for you. You are in my prayers.

You all are so kind and thoughtful! I will be fine, no matter what happens!! It's what I do, what we do! We endure and perservere! But, thank you for you warm thoughts. I really appreciate it!!

It's been quite the day already! Horrible sleep, so I was still sleeping when my visiting nurse arrived. She got to see the packing and that it's now pus-filled and really gross. Thankfully, she packed it for me. While I was with her, the OS surgery scheduler left a message on my phone that I got after the nurse left. I'm scheduled for a "procedure" tomorrow, Thursday, at 1230. She said that the OS will call me today to explain what he found on the cat scan from yesterday. So, I called the office. My OS is in surgery until 330 today, but was told that I am scheduled for an "incision and drainage." The person I talked to said that he probably found infection on the scan. He told them that he wanted to talk to me directly to explain, which he has done before. (I mean, I started with him when I was 12, and he still calls me kiddo!) So, I'm just waiting to hear from him later to see what the results were. I'm trying not to let my imagination run wild, but it has to be something significant if he's doing a procedure 2 days after a scan. I'm glad he's making me a priority though. I'll know more later.

I am taking Keflex, since last night. I'm eating lots of yogurt too (no C-diff for me). I just hope this doesn't set me back too far and that whatever he does tomorrow will protect my implant.

Thanks for the kind thoughts and words. I'll update when I know more.

I'm sorry that you have to have the surgery, Jen, and I know this must be distressing for you. But honestly, I think it is the only way to get to the deep infection that is eating into your wound. I'm glad your surgeon is going to do this. Conservative measures have been tried, and failed. He needs to do something quickly now, to prevent the wounds getting any deeper, and to access the infection inside the tunnels.

When you go tomorrow, take a bag of essentials and be prepared to stay in hospital for a few days. This needs sorting out properly.

Please let us know what your surgeon says when he speaks to you .

Best wishes, love and hugs. :loveshwr: :friends:

Prayers have gone up for you Jen. Best wishes for your procedure, you have a great "can do" attitude. All will be fine once you finally get there!

Hi Jen. I pray that it is not an infection. The last 2 procedures I had I&D's were involved. She was fixing areas that were healing as she would like. She went in and stitched things up again.

Just talked to my OS and he is being aggressive so the infection does not affect my implant. He said that my knee is fine and working perfectly. He said he is going to go in, drain it, open up the tunnel, and put me on a wound vac. He said it should be outpatient, but I will take essentials just in case. Not wonderful, but definitely not worst case either! And, I'm glad I don't have much time to dwell on yet another surgery!! It's a little one, but it will be the fourth in 7 months!!

So, on to tomorrow!

Jen

Thinking of you, Jen. Hearing infection isn't fun, but I think going in to take care of it is what's best.

I'll be praying for you tonight and tomorrow.

Glad to hear you got some answers, it gets scary when it can effect the implant. But we've both been lucky that our implants haven't been effected.
I'll be keeping you close in thoughts and prayers tomorrow and the days ahead.
The wound vac causes no discomfort, and you will be monitored all along the way.
Things should go better from here on out, it is a slow process even with the vac, for it to close shut.
The nurse that helped do my dressing suggested drinking ensure, or boost while my wound was healing, she said the extra protein is helpful for the healing process, ( i'm overweight so I didn't need the calories.) But I did find it helpful. I'll be watching for your next update, and by then things should be in place and healing should be started.

Best wishes for the procedure, Jen.
When you can, do let us know how it went.

Jen, sending prayers your way that they get the wound cleaned up and you can start to "really" heal. Maybe we'll get that walk at Letchworth, yet!!!

Blessings,
Lene'

I'm home and I feel pretty great, actually!! Very short procedure and the anesthesia was just right, so I woke up alert and not sick!!! I have a small opening where the hole was, with the foam in it, attached to a wound vac. The vac is a little bigger than my portable one, but still small enough. There is drainage, unlike the previous 2 I had. It makes a bit of noise, but it's fine. I have to say that I'm so surprised at how easy it's been up to this point. Everyone there was so nice and they felt bad for me that I had to have this done. I was there around 1145am, and was on my way home by 5pm. Short and sweet!!

I'll post pictures later. Let the healing commence hardcore!!
