THR Surgey complete

I just had my 6 week post op check up yesterday 1/9/15 and the xrays were good, the fracture is healed and I was given the ok to walk, no more toe touch only using crutches. I requested a walking cane because leg is still weak. I mainly use the cane going up stairs. I was told by the nurse that I would probably have some knee pain. Does anyone else have knee pain once they started walking again after their hip surgery? I am feeling more knee then I had on my hip, its not severe but very noticable. I am continuing with my excercises and I guess I have to work through this as my leg continues to heal.

I have knee pain following my RTHR. Both my physio and podiatrist say I am twisting very slightly on the op side - putting a bit of strain on the whole side. I am working with physio to strengthen that side and having new orthotics made to support my weak ankles and help by gait a bit. Takes time I am afraid.

Thanks Jaycey for your reply. My right leg is still weak and the cane is helping me when I do use it. I will continue my excercises and walk daily as the doctor subscribed.

Hi @tmusicman, just a quick note about the knee pain. I had a lot of knee pain forever it seemed to me. I could barely bend it, it was so stiff. In my case it had to be caused by the surgery itself, they twist bend and pull your leg in very unnatural angles from what I've read so those muscles get stretched in ways they've never been stretched before. My knee was fine before and it was totally messed up from day one after surgery. So I am pretty sure it happened during surgery. And the bad news, for me is it took a good three months to get back to normal. But then everything seemed to take me longer, so that's not to say it will take that long for anyone else. But it's almost back to normal now at 4 months so if it does bother you, it's just another of those normal pains we get. Good luck and hope you keep getting better.

Thanks Rhonda, its good to know eventualy it should get better. In my case I did not feel any knee pain until I was given the ok to start walking, 6 weeks after my surgery, because of a tiny fracture I had in my uper femur while performing the surgery. it feels like I am really hesitant about putting full weight on my leg and having uneven leg lengths for so long, i guess my knee is adjusting, now that they are even.
