Thanks Jo, you had me a little worried there, phew, cardi thanks too. My sore spot is so easy to put my finger on I had no trouble showing the doc exactly where it is. It still feels sore though, if no improvement happens in the next 2 weeks I will book another appt, maybe try another one as he suggested. I think I have had bursitis for quite a long time, maybe it will take some shifting.
Thanks again
Linda.

Hi all, still not feeling any relief after 11 days. I have just talked to my doctor who is willing to try another cortisone shot.
I have to book a treatment room with the doctor & a nurse attending, the quickest they can fit me in is 15th of this month.
Has it taken anybody else 2 injections before it worked ? also he only gave me about 1/2 strength dose the first time, I will ask him for the full dose on the 15th.

Hi Linda,

Let's tag Josephine; and maybe she can tell you if 11 days is still early for much relief. I'm sorry it isn't feeling any better. Does anyone offer to have the second injection guided by ultrasound to make sure it gets directly in to the bursa that is irritated?

Take care,
Cardie

Ultrasound is not needed to inject the trochanteric bursa! It's so superficial a medical student could do it! As for effect, it should be pretty much instant or at least within 24hrs but hardly surprising it didn't work if he only used half a dose.

Good luck Baalinda, hope you get answers and relief at your next appointment on 15th

Hi Linda,

How are you doing? Were you able to get another injection when you went back to your doctor?
Hope your hip is feeling better.

Take care,
Cardie

I have had these injections in the past. When I got them, the doctor's assistant told me it is very important to ice the site. She said, " Really, you can't ice too much." I also used a tens unit for awhile. Eventually the bursitis pain went away. It took about 3 injections, rest with stretching exercises and pain control via medication and TENS unit before the pain went away. The first cortisone shot ( I also had one in my knee) has never worked for me. Worked closely with doctor and saw him monthly until pain was gone.

Just to say I wish you all the best. I did use the book and chose system to get the Hosp and consultant of my choice. Even after all that you are intitled to a second option. If you believe it is from such and such a cause ask the surgeon or gp why they believe they are right. After all we have to give informed consent which unless you have a proper consultation can't be informed.

I had my 2nd cortisone injection for trochanteric bursitis last week, 6 months after the 1 also been in P T. For strenghthening m stretching and massage.
The combination of bursitis , IT Band, soft tissue, connective tissue issues have made recovery difficult. The 2nd shot helped significantly but it is not gone completely.
