marcopollo :) I planned that hard too. Hubby and I get to have a 2 week vacation ALL BY OURSELVES, and it has to be in May or it won't be by ourselves, so I had to plan around that. We were going to go last 2 wks in May (warmer) but they offered me May 15 for hip, and I asked for May 21. Vacation, new hip, it's all gonna be good for us! :)
PS you can "tag" anyone by putting an @ sign then no space and type part of their name: the rest will show up in autocomplete below the text field (on my computer that's where it is anyway). Click on that marcopollo and away you go! Then we get an alert that you have tagged us, so we know to come check it out! :)

Great news I'm Finally going to do it! I also have bilateral aetabular protrosio but can't get back to see my surgeon until May so surgery will likely be in June now - well, one in June and following in August. I have 2 young kids soquite nervous but very keen to get new hips!

How do you decorate a walker? I'm having TRHR on the 15 of April and a cheerful walker will, I hope, make me feel better. :)

Jojool, Hi, Our weather has been wonderful!! Thank you for the well wishes, and I hope all goes well at your appt. and your surgery gets scheduled. It is the first step, right!? No more pain and no more restricting ourselves from SO many things! My Dr. is Dr. Myerthall at The Core Institute and surgery is at Banner Desert in Mesa. We are in the West Valley, so it is a drive. If you decorate your walker too, we could maybe have a contest for best dressed walkers!! Keep in touch and let me know how your appt. went.

mondo_caine, Hi, Good luck on your surgery, I'm sure all will go well! For the walker, I'm thinking a trip to the party and craft stores for some inspiration...maybe ribbons, bows, streamers, balloons, silk flowers or vines and of course a bicycle horn in case no one's around, I can alert them!!! That will go over big! Post a picture if and when you do yours...take care

beckylou, Hi, well unfortunately we have something in common, but all will be well! June will be here before you know it and you'll be on your way. I am nervous too and feel like the wait is the hardest part...some days are easier than others, right?! You're smart to do it now while your kids are young so you can enjoy so much more of life with them. Won't it be great to have no more pain and no more limp? Keep in touch and take care...

marcopollo, Thank you so much for the well wishes...right back at ya! You're very smart to do it sooner than later, you'll be glad you did. July will be here before you know it, and then no more pain!

I'm finally gonna do it!! I think we should have a contest, best decorated walker. Winner wins...well, we just win bragging rights, but it sounds fun to do. Maybe we can inspire others to decorate theirs too!

Two weeks to go... good and bad feelings for what's to come! I haven't slept good in years due to trying to get comfortable, but it's even worse now. If I wake up, I have to watch a silly Nick at Nite re-run to cheer me up! I cry at the drop of a hat, not to mention sappy commercials!! But...my Beagle hopped up on my lap in the middle of the night and kissed me all over, and it made me realize that I will be able to take her for walks after it's over! It's the small stuff that makes us realize the big picture!

You are so right, I'm finally gonna do it!! It is the little things that make life BIG. And after your surgery, you will want to take note of each little milestone you have as you recovery. These are the little things that let you know that you are getting better and better--even if it is happening more slowly than you'd like. I like that picture of you being kissed all over by your beagle---makes me smile.

Take care and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] Scared, but ready to go!

I love beagles! I work in a special school and the Principal has a beagle that he brings in to school. The kids love love Stella, and if they are good they get to take her for a walk. She loves giving everyone kisses too.

Woohoo! Tomorrow will be the one year Anniversary of my left hip! My hubby told me last year at this time, that next year on this day we will be hiking a mountain and we will be... I couldn't even imagine it. It has been a truly unbelievable journey: the years of pain and having to say no to too many things, the limp, the pre-op thinking about it (Ugh!), the wonderful OS who did my surgeries, the hospital staff, the recoveries, my fantastic PT, and of course BS. I put it off for many years and wish I wouldn't have done that. For any of you contemplating doing this or having a difficult time recuperating, it gets soooo much better, you get your life back! People ask me if I feel back to normal...normal and way beyond, it had been so long! Best of luck to all of you!

@I'm finally gonna do it!! thank you so much for coming back and updating us. I too play golf (saw you play on your thread) but had to stop 8 weeks ago because of the pain. My surgery is this Tuesday 29th I am nervous so a positive update from you is so appreciated.

@Hdold, you are very welcome! You hang in there and don't be nervous...I can tell you I spent way too much time worrying (and crying) right before my surgeries, had to do it twice. The thinking about it is the absolute worst part of this journey, you will find out when the surgery is over! As for golf...you'll be out there before you know it. After my second hip replacement I went for my 4 month OS visit, got the ok to return to anything! My hubby and I hit the driving range that day and the next day played nine holes, and I didn't do all that bad! No pain! I'm back to playing and it's fun again...and I can actually see an improvement. Today we did the Anniversary hike up the mountains in our neighborhood and it felt great. I am so excited for you, and soon you will realize what I mean....all will go great and keep us updated! Fore!
