Thanks @Butterfly. Hubby's going to see what he can rig up. Basically I guess what I meant is that the chair, before it's reclined, sort of rocks back (it is a rocker/recliner) and so I'm really in a reclined position (and my feet off the floor) before I even put the foot part up. It wouldn't even break the 90 degree rule when I'm just sitting in it - but it's the sitting down and getting up that would break it. I'm hoping if it's raised on a pallet, with something jammed under the back to keep it from rocking backwards, it might be ok. I actually sat down in it earlier today and one of those tension bars you use in the closet or for a shower curtain (we have one we're not using and my 2 yr old granddaughter had brought it upstairs) had rolled under the side and it wouldn't rock back. I thought, "Hey, this might work" so will try something like that. If it was along the side of the chair, I could easily move it after sitting down, in order to recline, and then roll it back under when it's time to get up. Would certainly beat having to spend money on something else. Does anybody have an idea if there's a guideline about how high a chair should be? I'm tall, so if there was something that says it shouldn't hit below knee level, or mid thigh . . . Something like that?

In other news: went and got a haircut today and found out the lady will come to my home to cut or colour my hair, and do pedicures! Yay! I haven't been able to do my right foot in ages - and hubby really isn't into it. So now I have something to look forward to after I'm getting around a bit again - the luxury of somebody coming to MY house to give me a pedi . I'm so excited!

Oh that's fantastic news @moms4tne nothing like getting your hair and nails done to lift your mood.

The general rule about sitting is not to let your hip fall below your knee when sitting.

I like your idea about putting something under the chair after you have sat down but I truly do no think you will be able to do that post surgery...twisting hurts!!!!! ....and I'm pretty sure twisting like that is restricted. It doesn't have to be restricted for me....it hurts too much.

Have you tried the pillow on the chair? Once you have found the right height for you, measure it on your leg. For example, my level was just above my knee so when I was out and needed to sit I could work out if I needed a pillow to bring the height if some chairs up. It was no big deal. I just had a pillow that I could take.

A stool is a great example of your knee being below your hip when sitting.

Oh and there are pictures in one of the threads....it might be in this one

Hope that makes sense

The main problem of not breaking the rule is when you go to get up from it -- the lower the chair, the harder it is to get out of without breaking the restriction. That's why you need something under the FRONT corners of the rocker so it won't rock forward the make the front of the chair actually lower when you try to get up. It doesn't seem to me the rocking backwards you are describing would make as much difference as the getting up part. It's kind of hard to describe in words.

Good advice @Butterfly getting out if the chair can be difficult - it is hard to find the right recovery chair. We had new recliners made to measure, but I didn't take into account my leg lengthening, so not the perfect setup..

I remember after I got home from the hospital, I sat in the recliner....no problem.....but, I couldn't get out of it! Hubby had to pull me out. So, I agree with @Butterfly!

Do what @Butterfly suggests. You need to raise that recliner, and make it not rockable, then you are good!
I had bed risers (6 inches ) put under my four legs. Yours probably needs the platform thing though.
I really needed the 6 inches to feel perfectly comfortable and know that I would not break restrictions.
Although mine only lasted 2 weeks, I still am using everything, and am very conservative in keeping to
the restrictions for good measure. I also bought a Tush-Cush on amazon; its a seat wedge that makes the hips higher than the knees. You can also put it in the car for same reason.
