Core Decompression Post OP--What to expect for a youngster?

I'm so glad you are doing better.:egypdance:
I've seen so many advances in so many areas...and we are making great strides in medicine and in treatments.
I feel so blessed to be able to rock these bionic hips and be out of the chronic pain I was in.:chuckmarch:

Being able to help others while making a living is truly an honorable aspiration.
Our life experiences, even the tribulations, make us who we are.
I suspect you, who have overcome so much, will inspire others and do well.

Hope you have a happy 4th...and please let us know how things are with you!

Over Two months out and how are you?
Deep in school work?
Just wanted to pop in and say hello:wave: and mention that my sleeping really didn't get back on track until 4th month:bored:
Wanted to sleep on side, but Didn't want to sleep on side!:umm:

Hope your weekend is peaceful and that you are doing well!

I start school this Monday. :)

I can finally walk again, and I went to Las Vegas a few weeks back and explored the Vegas strip for 4 days.

I still get pain on my hip though, I'm guessing because it's still healing? Not sure. I do have a bunch of inflammation with my AVN on my most of joints too. Not sure what is causing the flare up.

That's also a very long time without adequate sleep. Hope all is well and thanks!

Glad you got a break.
May have been a bit too much walking?
Hope you don't have a terrible class schedule...and can still find time to rest that hip when necessary.
My son is taking Calculus AGAIN!
And a philosophy class,,,so maybe he can find the meaning of life...and calculus:heehee:

Hi @LifeIsPain,

Just read your thread. I wanted to let you know that I have a colleague who also had AVN as a result of cancer treatment. He is also quite young... early 30s if I am not mistaken. He live is Alberta (Canada)... Calgary to be exact. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that he had both his hips replaced about 2 years ago (each leg six months apart). The implants now have a life expectancy of about 20-30 years (his were ceramic on ceramic) at 85%... meaning they expect 85% of implants to be functioning well at 20-30 years. This is no guarantee of course as they have no long term data for the new types of implants... but it certainly can be done. Anyway, my colleague is doing quite well after the replacement. Just thought I would let you know.

Cheers

Hope you had fun in Vegas exploring the strip.
Wishing you the best as you return to school. Let us know how it's going in a few weeks.
Hopefully your hip issues calm and you're able to get enough sleep for classes.
A great week to you as you head back!

I've got a nice schedule. Work in the morning on campus and attend in the afternoon.

To your son, better luck this time! He can do it, just need to bit the extra work in.

The Vegas strip was very fun to explore, although I wish I had come with a bit more cash and preparation on how to save money and what to avoid.

So far these past two week so of school have been hectic but things are starting to calm down. My left hip still has pain and I'm not sure if I should wait a bit longer before I have it evaluated. Some days I have a hard time bending my knee against my chest. Thanks for stopping by!

Glad to hear you had fun on vacay.
Consider calling the office of your OS and speaking with a member of his care team.
They'll know how to advise. Either by offering reassurance over the phone, or scheduling a visit.
Hope you have a great week! Stay in touch.

Some days I have a hard time bending my knee against my chest.
Then please don't do that right now!
You are making me nervous!
Hope all is going well for you and school.
Wishing you a good week!

Found out the source of my pain. It's Edema on my hip joint. No fractures, so that's good. Not sure if I'll have to replace it later down the line on both hips.

Oh my stars:sad:
Edema in the bone marrow I am guessing is what you are referring to?
I have read that is very painful.
Glad they're were no fractures.
Certainly explains your ongoing pain.
Please let us know how you are doing? You are so tough but I know that you are tired of dealing with these health issues.
Keep the faith..
We are rooting for you !:friends:

Sorry you're suffering pain.
Wondering what your OS suggested to bring you relief...
Wishing you comfort and continued healing.
@LifeIsPain

Oh wow, this is rather encouraging and informative.

Yes, they told me THR would only last me about 10-15 years. I've tried to get different opinions from many doctors but their answers were practically the same. My insured by kaiser, if that matters.

My core decompression was just a drilling of my hip. No grafting, no implants. The wound was sealed with glue.

Thanks for advice. I'll do my best to find an appropriate surgeon next time.

Hi @LifeIsPain,

How are you doing today? Is the edema any better? Your vacation story was encouraging.

I am a fellow plain CD 'with nothing' recipient (both hips) and got practically the same responses as you prior to consenting to having CD done.

If it's any consolation, I could barely walk, lay down or sit without pain before my surgery. I had to kneel or squat to type when sitting became unbearable. Aside from lethargy, I am in a better place now.

I am rooting and praying for your complete healing!

Hope today is a Good Day!

Hi @LifeIsPain !:)
Wondering how you were managing and if school was going well.
Pop by and let us know if you are so inclined!
Sending good mojo from the east coast.

:wave:just wondered if you are finishing the semester and ready for a break.
Think of you often and wonder how you are faring?
If you do pop by, please know I'm wishing you well.
Hope your holiday is sweet!:reindeerlights:
