Revision TKR Poly plate exchange

I’m glad you got some answers and direction to manage your pain. I completely understand. When I saw my OS Wed., he did change one of mine and doing a rotation with meds. Hoping this will work!

I know you can take Tylenol with Tramadol, have seen Josephine’s chart. I am now taking Percocet again, but alternating with Tramadol every four hours. I asked my OS nurse if I could take ibuprofen with Tramadol. Which is better the Tylenol or Ibuprofen with Tramadol? I know I need to keep the Tylenol at 4,000 per
24 hours. Since the Percocet has Tylenol in it, wonder if the Advil would be good (since it helps with inflammation )when taking the Tramadol?

I believe Tylenol works best with the Tramadol. The ibuprofen and advil are just what you say, for inflammation and not really pain like Tylenol is. My OS had me taking Meloxicam for inflammation but none of it really effected the inflammation like ice and elevation did. Also, once I was doing the Tylenol and Tramadol, I weaned off the Percocet and life was overall much better. :) Tylenol and Tramadol was taken until I entered my 4th month. Regarding the rotation of Percocet and Tramadol - I remember calling the pharmacist and he confirmed to never take those together. I also watched the amount of Tylenol when taking while still on the Percocet.

Thank you, yes at some point and hopefully soon I can wean off of the Percocet. I’ve had really bad pain with this knee replacement and couldn’t keep it controlled. Just started the rotation on Wed., and already feel better not taking the Percocet each time. I don’t know that I’m getting the coverage with Tramadol but was barely making it to a four hour mark with the Percocet anyway. I’m hanging in there and see how it all works together.

Without a doubt, Tramadol with Tylenol is better at decreasing pain than Tramadol with Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID), used primarily for reducing inflammation. Gram for gram it is a much less effective pain reliever than Tylenol.

In addition, there are dangers associated with using NSAIDS. They aren't the harmless little wonder pills the manufacturers would have you believe. They can increase your tendency to bleed, particularly in your stomach - so never take them on an empty stomach and stop taking them at once if you experience any gastric symptoms.

There is some evidence that taking NSAIDS can slow down healing and a recent study has shown that taking them can increase your likelihood of developing heart disease:
NSAIDs Diclofenac. ibuprofen increase risk of heart problems: new study

Thank you. I know usage of NSAIDS can cause stomach issues. Didn’t realize they can slow down healing! Good to know.

Can you change my thread title to - One day at a time- One step at a time!. Trying to work on being positive!
Thank you-

I've changed your thread title for you.

I’ve started with some swelling behind my knee, which is new. I didn’t have that last time.
I have been up moving a little more yesterday and today, assume that’s why? I’ll be 6 weeks Tuesday.

Make sure you ice the back of your knee as well as the front - that might help.

Yes, I have been the last several days. Didn’t have any swelling in back until now. (Almost 6 weeks)

What have you been doing differently? That should give you a clue as to why this back of the knee pain has started.

In PT today the therapist talked about the swelling behind my knee and she noticed some in my ankle. Once again, didn’t have this my last knee replacement or revision. She said to call and let him know and recommended wearing the compression sock that goes over the knee. Just looking on Amazon, they carry them. Probably less expensive then getting them through my OS. Any recommendations?
It’s not that much swelling, but she knew I had it in the back of the knee over a week now.

6 weeks Tuesday. Pain for the most part, is under control. I still feel like I’m not doing much, washing a few dishes, making easy meals, transferring laundry to dryer, folding but husband puts it away and does most of the cooking. Not able to sit with my leg down for very long. Not driving, and haven’t gone anywhere except OS twice and PT. I walk around doing light things, looking for something I can do ( which is not much) Husband cleans. Walking for maybe 20 minutes max and back to sitting down. Maybe not even that long. Feel like I should be further than this. Still using cane and doing steps one at a time.
Any feedback of about the same at 6 weeks?

You're doing OK. Your main job is still to rest, ice, elevate and only do very little exercise.
Check your activity against this article and you'll see that you shouldn't be trying to do very much at all at this stage. Activity progression for TKRs

Remember that recovery takes as long as a full year, so it's really early days still. It's a marathon of a journey, not a sprint.

Just in case you're feeling guilty about not doing much yet, have a look at this article:
Nurturing mother: how to let go and accept help

Well I don’t know if I will be much help I am 9 weeks and still do very little. I try to follow the activity progression for tkr. In fact I am still getting up very early like 4a.m. I tried to help last night with dinner and by the end , I was so tired,:sleep:back in my chair. It sounds like you are doing pretty good for six weeks,I was in about the same spot. I have been told not to rush this it is not a sprint but a marathon (hope I got that right) I will say this much I seem to be improving not so much pain and sleeping a little better sorta contradiction from what I said earlier but believe me any little improvement you feel like jumping for joy. A little humor for you the friend that told me that there was nothing to a tkr is in deep trouble with me I am thinking broom handle Just hang in if you can’t sleep get your IPad out and go to bone smart tell everyone what’s going on they are
great with help and listen. Just try to keep your mind busy and positive.:flwrysmile:

I think you're doing great at 6 weeks-just be wary of doing too much and ending up in the ODIC

I thought I changed your thread title, but it is still "6 Weeks post-op". I'll change it now

Oh no that’s fine! You did change it then I actually saw how to change it again.

So, which thread title do you prefer?
We can change it to whatever you'd like, or you can do it yourself.
