Revision TKR Poly plate exchange

I had a revision on my left 2 years ago. Still having pain. Bone scan in 12/21 showed possible loosening or fracture according to radiologist. Surgeon wasn’t in total agreement and said to wait a little longer and repeat bone scan. Nothing changed according to radiologist.
He is still not convinced it’s loosening. Talked about a possible blood flow situation and recommended nerve ablation. He couldn’t answer my questions about it as he was not that
Informed! I think it’s time to go to a revision specialist.

I agree, you can start your search with our Surgeon Locator above in the blue banner. Are you still looking in the Atlanta area, can you widen your search?

Sorry you may be going to go through another revision.

Here is a recommendation in the Atlanta area. Please let me know if you decided to consult with him and how things went.

Atlanta, Georgia area
George N. Guild III, M.D.
Primary and revision hip and knee

Thank you! Was just going to respond and ask how to find out for a revision specialist just in the surgeon locator. It doesn’t say if they are a revision specialist. I will look into Dr. Guild III.
Thank you again!

It doesn’t say if they are a revision specialist.
When I am looking for a surgeon, I get a recommended name, then I google that name, and look them up on the healthgrades website, and there they have a description of what surgeon does. You want ones who do revision, or complex joint, or reconstruction.

Check out Jeremy Statton or Greg Ehrens to see what their revision experience is.

Thank you for reaching out with their names. I will check into both.

I’ve just had a revision on 2/22. Poly plate tibia exchange. Went in not knowing if he was going to do this or another total. The first TKR failed, the second one wasn’t places midline so he wasn’t sure if he was going to redo. He said it looked sturdy and cemented so left it and just removed scar tissue and did the exchange. I’ve had 2 TKR on left, and 1 poly plate exchange in between. Now another one. I’ve since moved to a revision specialist. Trying to follow those who have been through a revision with poly plate exchange. This surgeons protocol is totally different from the previous surgeon. Looking for the progress and time frame of those who have or having this procedure of a revision.

I’m sorry to read you‘ve had another revision. :console2: Please confirm which knee it was so we can update your signature.

A spacer exchange doesn’t cause as much trauma as a full revision, so your recovery should be a bit shorter, but remember, it’s still major surgery and plenty to heal from.

Here’s a refresher course for you:

I will leave you our Recovery Guidelines. Each article is short but very informative. Following these guidelines will help you have a less painful recovery.

Just keep in mind all people are different, as are the approaches to this recovery and rehab. The key is, “Find what works for you.“ Your doctors, PTs and BoneSmart are available to help, but you are the final judge as to the recovery approach you choose.

Knee Recovery: The Guidelines

1. Don’t worry: Your body will heal all by itself. Relax, let it, don't try and hurry it, don’t worry about any symptoms now, they are almost certainly temporary

2. Control discomfort:
rest
ice
take your pain meds by prescription schedule (not when pain starts!)
If you want to use something to help heal the incision,
BoneSmart recommends hypochlorous solution. Members in the US can purchase ACTIVE Antimicrobial Hydrogel through BoneSmart at a discount. Similar products should be available in the UK and other countries.

3. Do what you want to do BUT
a. If it hurts, don't do it and don't allow anyone - especially a physical therapist - to do it to you
b. If your leg swells more or gets stiffer in the 24 hours after doing it, don't do it again.
4. PT or exercise can be useful BUT take note of these

5. At week 4 and after you should follow this

6. Access to these pages on the website

We try to keep the forum a positive and safe place for our members to talk about their questions or concerns and to report successes with their joint replacement surgery.

While members may create as many threads as they like in the majority of BoneSmart’s forums, we ask that each member have only One Recovery Thread. This policy makes it easier to go back and review the member’s history before providing advice, so please post any updates or questions you have right here in this thread.

The poly plate exchange was done on my left knee. Thanks for the update and information!

Thanks, I‘ve updated your signature.

I also merged your post today with your original recovery thread for your left knee, to keep the history together.

I sure hope this is the last surgery for you! :console2:

Just had a poly exchange on 2/22. Anyone else going through this?

@Lynne Cleveland.

Please notice that I've merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread. We ask that you maintain just one recovery thread to keep all your recovery information in one place, making it easier for us to review your history before we provide advice. If you have multiple threads, you will miss posts and advice left for you in your original thread, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated. Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.

So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here. You may want to Bookmark this thread to make it easier to find.

For more on how to navigate the forum, you can read through this article: https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/how-can-i-find-my-threads-and-posts.56840/
