TKR Poetry Chef's Epic Recovery

It sounds like you got some good sleep during the movie, :heehee:!

I slept a lot in my recliner, too. It's great that you're being able to get out now. You will be much better off when it's time to go back to work.

Driving is such independence! I was thrilled when I got back to it.

What you saw of the movie, did you like it?

So the napping was truly energy drain and not a commentary on the movie? :heehee: I'd have trouble now seeing anyone but David Suchet as Poirot.

@PoetryChef hey girl! How is it going?? I have been mia a bit with the holidays and not on the computer much to physically check in. Hope you had a good holiday season! Have you started back to work yet?

@SpaceGirl, I will return the last week of January at twelve weeks. Boy, this has been an epic recovery for sure. Bilateral is a bit slower recovery from what I understand. My left knee has been my problem child and my rom is not where I want it to be but I am just being patient and thankful that there is still time before I return to work. This week I actually went to a sports masseuse who worked on my legs. She managed to break up the scar tissues at my incisions and my knees feel so much better.

I am glad to hear that you are progressing forward and that you had a lovely holiday season.

Ahh ok I knew it was probably this month but could not remember for sure. It is frustrating when we aren't where we want to be or think we should be, but time will get us there eventually! I wonder if lefty is going to give me issues?? I hope not though! Lol

I am glad it seems overall you are doing fairly well. I have missed chatting with you!

Hello, everyone. Just a short update and a so sorry to have been mia for so long. I am now going into my 13th week post op BTKR (staged for the folks here as I had two separate surgeries in one week). When people say this recovery is a marathon I'd like to add that it surely is. So much has happened in my world post surgery: my parents were ill and cancelled Christmas due to that terrible cold/flu going around, my mother suffered a mild heart attack post flu, my daughter in law had her 3rd knee surgery (she was a soccer player in college), a very good friend caught the flu and passed away in 5 short days and now my father is sick with the Noro virus. So much and I have tried to stay well and help as much as possible.

I returned to work weeks ago out of necessity as in addition to working as a chef full time, I also help my family with their medical supply business. With my parents illnesses our business all but shut down for a month which is certainly not good for business. My dad and I did what we could to keep the doors open. I am to return to my regular full time job today and they are happy to see me back there which is a good thing.

An aside, it seemed like every time I went to physical therapy my car would overheat. Imagine that, so in addition to all of the above, I traded in my 12 year old Jeep for a new Mazda suv which is a king's ransom and makes me more than happy to return to work. :)

I have continued to read along here. I am doing well. My 12 week check up was a success and if you recall my surgeon was 3.5 hours away. I drove most of the way myself and had my other half with me for moral support. My flexion was only at about 100 according to my surgeon and he wants me to be sure to walk everyday and to do chair exercises to increase the flexion. He requires that I return at one year which is in November. I told my surgeon that this experience was one of the toughest of my life and he looked at me and said "the surgery?" I replied "yes, the whole experience of it." We make it through because we must but this certainly isn't easy and it is pretty much all consuming. I am still early out of the gate but really happy with my results thus far.

I do send my best regards to all and hope you are moving forward in your journey as well.

best,
Sherry

Good to hear from you. I’m so sorry about your friend, what a shock! And I’m sorry your parents have been so sick. It is amazing that you didn’t get sick and have come through all that stress and still have your good attitude.

Yes, this recovery is all consuming!
And the doctor was surprised. :banghead:

Best wishes to you as you continue your healing journey.

You and your family have certainly had some rough months. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. This flu is something else. I pray your life calms down!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. We have been very lucky that the flu has so far not touched anyone in our house.
Getting a dependable car is such a wonderful feeling. Almost as good a feeling as having dependable knees :yes!:
Please keep posting updates. It's so good to hear about all the wonderful things we all have to look forward to.

Sherrie
