PKR Please reply

@Stewydog, please see an infectious disease Dr. He or she will be able along with an orthopedic Dr to diagnose what is going on in your knee. I got diagnosed with a infection in my knee 2 yrs after the TKR. I had hardware removed, a spacer placed in knee and 8 wks of iv antiobiotics before knee replacement. You can do this, here I am one yr to the day after all this and I'm thriving! It sucks but you must take care of the problem, and it may be something simple to take care of. You'll get to the other side!

Thats very good advice. I fully intend to get to the bottom of this. From what i can find online this is the correct first step. Doing blood work to test for inflammation which indicates an infection. Tell me what the steps were for you please

And also i am so happy you are thriving. One year anniversary!!!!! So glad for you

I sure need a shoulder to cry on today. I went to my primary care doc today for something unrelated but told her all about my experience with my knee. Of course i had to weigh. I have gained 12 lbs SINCE i got the knee replacement. That threw me for a loop. Its not a vanity thing. Its a health thing. I gained a significant amount of weight years ago when i took the anti depressant Paxil. So I’ve managed to stay steady for several years. Not losing but not gaining either. That has really really depressed me. I had gotten to 2 miles a day very regularly and was feeling good. Then the hip replacement followed by a very painful knee and then surgery on the knee. I had this belief going into this that I’d be out there walking my 2 miles again before this. That dream was shattered and adding that much weight along with it has hit me hard.

In addition I’ve had to delay my return to work again so thats taking a toll financially. I’m sorry to be a bummer. It just feels very bleak today

Stewydog, you will get your two mile walks back and then some! I know you will! I’m so sorry you are struggling. This recovery is absolutely brutal and takes every bit of strength a person has, physically but also (mostly?) mentally. There are so many challenges. I’m sorry you’re missing work and that is financially stressful. I get it…I’m looking at changing jobs because mine is incredibly physical and I can’t keep taking time away. It’s also frustrating when you watch your weight go up because it’s not your fault. It’s forced inactivity. And it can make you feel so helpless. All you can do is eat as healthy as you can and gradually build up your activity only as your knee is ready. You can’t rush the knee. You’ll get back where you want to be, but it’s gonna take time. Have you been able to rule out infection or are you still working on that? In the meantime, rest ice, gentle walks and stretches and hang out on BoneSmart when you need some support. We’re here for you :console2:

Good Morning Stewydog,
While a twelve pound weight gain caught you by surprise, it can happen easily enough through inactivity as you're recovering. Losing it shouldn't be too difficult once you're able to put your mind to it. I am sorry you're feeling really down and also finding it necessary to delay your return to work. It becomes stressful when it involves our finances. I hope you received some direction from your Primary as to next steps for your knee issue. Addressing these issues one by one may be more doable than trying to take everything on all at once. Doing so can feel crippling and become overwhelming. If you have realistic concerns in regard to your knee, please address them with your OS so you're able to receive some direction, formulate a plan and move forward. Wishing you comfort and peace this holiday season.
@Stewydog

It is possible that some of your weight gain is fluid and swelling in your knee. Once that fluid is flushed out I bet some of that weight will come off.

I had my yearly doctors visit this past week. I dreaded stepping on that scale! I too have gained around 12 pounds. last June I walked down the driveway and couldn't walk back up. In August I had the knee replacement surgery. I'm usually a very active person and not being able to do anything was very depressing. Plus, not sleeping I think adds to our weight gain. My doctor was understanding, and she feels in the new year I'll be able to take the weight off. You could tell through my jeans that my knee was swollen. I'm able to do so much more but I'm not there yet. Right now, it's just too hard with the holidays. I hope you find the answers about your knee.

Oh thank y’all so much for your encouragement!!! As to whether I’m doing anything to find out if my knee is infected, i am. Had a blood test about 2 mos ago. The doc looks at one particular number in the blood cell count that indicates infection. It was normal. Took another 3 weeks later and it showed inflammation twice as high as it should be BUT i had had a gynecological procedure done in hospital which may have skewed the numbers. SO had another blood draw last Thursday and will hear the results this Tuesday. I am worried but trying not to be. Fact is if its high that can’t be good. I will appreciate your prayers.

I will pray for good news and for your peace of mind as you await results from your physician on Tuesday.
Hugs :console2: :prayer:
